Overland High School students use cancer cells in research. Students were involved in an Immunohistology project where students took unstained human pancreas slides and exposed them to primary and secondary antibodies to test if their "patient" was diabetic or not.
This is a very common procedure that immunohistotechnologists do everyday when they receive specimens from a patient biopsy. This type of procedure allows the IHT to detect everything from simple conditions, like diabetes, all the way to more advanced diseases like cancers. The report is sent to a pathologist.
