School Start Times

As a result of the community-wide Cherry Creek 2021 (CC2021) process that resulted in the identification and adoption of new district graduation requirements, the district has made a commitment to review structures and practices at all levels. We are working hard to insure that we are supporting student learning at the highest level, and that means examining every facet of our operation. That includes considering the factors that impact our students outside of the classroom, specifically the start time of our schools in relation to best practices and research on sleep patterns in adolescents.

We started this conversation more than a year ago and most recently, we engaged parents, students and staff in a survey to ascertain the level of support for adjusting schedules. Perhaps unsurprisingly, support for making a change to the district's current schedule was overwhelming.

Your voices and input are important in this process. Please take a few moments in the coming weeks to visit the site below and learn more about the research into these issues as well as our process in making our decisions and coming up with our proposed model. As you review this information, please keep in mind that our priority has been developing an ideal schedule for student learning. We know that no one schedule fits every individual's personal preference, but we have worked to find an option that takes the best research and data into account.

We will continue to review feedback from students, parents, teachers, staff and other members of our community in anticipation of making a recommendation to the Cherry Creek School District Board of Education this spring for implementation in the 2017-18 school year.
