The Cherry Creek District Chess Tournament will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Overland High School. All Cherry Creek students are invited to compete. The divisions will be Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, Middle School (6th-8th Grades), and High School (9-12th Grades). Trophies will awarded for each division. See attached entry form and information.
 
DIVISIONS
Grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). K & 1st Grade sections may be combined. Students must attend a school in the Cherry Creek School District to play. This is a non-rated tournament. USCF rules will apply.
ENTRY FEE
$15.00 per child. Registration fee waivers are available through the Cherry Creek Gifted and Talented Office (720-554-5052) for students in financial hardship. Money and registration MUST be received by February 25, 2012. There will be no on-site registration. No confirmation letters will be sent.
TIMES
Check in is 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. The Player Meeting is at 9:00 a.m. (All competitors must attend). Round 1 begins at 9:30 am. Each round will take approximately one hour. There will be no scheduled lunch break and no food will be provided. Players should bring their own sack lunch and snacks to eat in between rounds. This is a 5-round, non-elimination tournament - players should plan to participate in all five rounds.
TIME CONTROL
Time control is G/30 (30 minutes, per player, per game). A clock will be placed on games still in progress 40 minutes after the round start time, with each player getting 10 minutes. Most of the children are not experienced with chess clocks. We will explain how to use the clock to the children, as needed.
PRIZES
In each division, the top finishers will be awarded trophies. Participation awards will be given to non-trophy winners. Awards ceremony will follow the final round and will occur mid-late afternoon, after Round 5 is completed. Ties for trophies will be broken with the following tie-break systems: 1.Solkoff, 2.Modified Median, 3.Cumulative.
LOCATION
Overland High School, 12400 E. Jewel Ave; Aurora (Enter west side of Overland High School off Jewel Ave. (just east of Peoria St.), go south to the rear of Overland HS and park. Enter Overland HS from the south entrance.
SUPERVISION
Only tournament directors will be allowed in the playing area after each round begins. An adult must accompany all the participants under 12 years old. If the child is not supervised they will be forfeited and asked to leave the tournament. Good behavior of all participants is expected.

Lunch will not be provided. Bring snacks, beverages, and lunch for your child. Every child needs adult supervision for the entire tournament. Parents are not to drop off their children for the day and leave them unattended.

No confirmation letters will be sent. If you enter early and your check is cashed, you know your entry has been received.
