Spelling Bee

The annual Cherry Creek School District Spelling Bee was held at the Student Achievement Resource Center on Friday, February 5. Each of the forty-nine participating elementary and middle schools had their own spelling bee and sent a team of 4-5 students to the district event.  A total of 212 students were given a vocabulary test and a written spelling test.  Two students, Austin McBride from Campus and Jessica Chen from Homestead, received perfect scores on both of these tests.  The 31 highest scorers from the morning took part in an oral spelldown in the afternoon.  The top 20 spellers will represent Cherry Creek School District at the Colorado State Bee on March 12 at the University of Denver campus.  The winning word was glossolalia.  The second place word was fulguration and third place was dichromatism.  Trophies were awarded to all finalists by Board of Education members Karen Fisher and Eric Parish.  Congratulations to all of the students who represented their schools!
