Spelling Bee

The annual Cherry Creek School District Spelling Bee was held at the Student Achievement Resource Center on Friday, February 8.  Each of the 47 participating elementary and middle schools had its own individual spelling bee in preparation for this day, and each fielded its own team.  A total of 203 students participated in the activities on February 8.  The written spelling bee took place in the morning.  The 28 highest scorers  took part in an oral bee in the afternoon, beginning at 1 PM.  


The top 16 students will go on to represent the District on March 16 in the Colorado State Spelling Bee.  


First place went to Shray Chauhan from Campus Middle School. Second place went to Andrew Ker from Laredo Middle School.  Third place went to Grant Miller from Falcon Creek Middle School. Students in order from fourth to sixteenth place include the following:  Andrew Ying-Campus, Kendra Neumann-Campus, Ana Gijon Van Linden-Walnut Hills, Isalina Colsman-Cottonwood, Tanzilla Purnota-Challenge, Allison Xu-Cottonwood, Valliappan Chidambaram-Sky Vista, Daniel Schlatter-West, Evan Damato-Cherry Creek Academy, Megan Swierenga-Homestead, Ramshankar Balasubramaniyan-Falcon Creek, Anna Ying-Greenwood, Riley Somo-Laredo. 


The winner of the written spelling bee, for the third consecutive year, was Andrew Ying. The winning word in the oral spelldown was slantindicular. Trophies were awarded by Superintendent Mary Chesley at the conclusion of the bee.
