The annual Cherry Creek School District Spelling Bee was held at the Student Achievement Resource Center on Friday, February 6, 2015. Each of the 47 participating elementary and middle schools had it's own individual spelling bee in preparation for this day, sending a team of 3-5 students to represent their school. A total of 203 students in grades 2nd - 8th participated throughout the day. The morning consisted of a vocabulary test and a written spelling test, for a total of 50 words. The winner of the written test, with a perfect score, was Austin McBride from Campus Middle School. The two test scores were added together to give us the top 36 students who competed in the oral bee that afternoon.
First Place - Rayl Morris, Thunder Ridge Middle School
Second Place - Austen Mazenko, Campus Middle School
Third Place - Tess Rittenberg, Campus Middle School
The winning word in the oral spelldown was "salvageable". "Luscious" was the word determining second place; "bradycardia" determined third place.
These top 20 spellers will represent our district at the Colorado State Bee on March 14 at the University of Denver. They are pictured with Dr. Judy Skupa, Assistant Superintendent, who presented trophies to all of the winners.
