Forty-four teams from the Cherry Creek School District will compete at the Colorado Destination ImagiNation State Championships on April 12 at the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. They earned that opportunity during the Cherry Creek Schools Regional DI Tournament, held March 8 at Eaglecrest High School. It’s the largest regional tournament in the state, with more than 900 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, competing on 147 teams, and demonstrating their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills, complete with props, skits, colorful costumes and lots of excitement and drama.
“No wonder DI is such a popular activity!” exclaimed parent Mark Hopkins, who chaperoned his daughter’s team. “Our team had, in the words of my daughter, ‘One of the best days of our lives!’”
“Destination ImagiNation is an after school, creative problem solving and critical thinking program that teaches teamwork and innovation through the arts and STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” said Pearl Schwartz, who, along with Maureen Dewar, are DI regional directors for Cherry Creek Schools. “It teaches 21st century skills and helps give students a competitive advantage when they are applying for college, scholarships or jobs.”
Congratulations to all of the Cherry Creek School District DI teams!
