Cherry Creek schools honored for academic growth and achievement

The Cherry Creek School District and 18 Cherry Creek schools received awards from the Colorado Department of Education on March 1 during a ceremony to celebrate 2016 district and school performance results. Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes honored districts and schools that earned acclaim in several categories.

ELPA AwardFor the third consecutive year, the Cherry Creek School District received the English Language Proficiency Act (ELPA) Excellence Award. It was presented to ten districts and ten schools that achieved the highest growth among English learners in an English Language Proficiency Program and that achieve the highest academic achievement for English learners who transition out of an English Language Proficiency Program.

Eight Cherry Creek schools received the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award and 15 Cherry Creek Schools received the John Irwin Schools of Excellence Award. Six Cherry Creek schools received both awards.

“These awards affirm the intense and focused work our faculty and staff are doing to ensure that all of our children learn, grow and achieve academically,” said Dr. Harry Bull, superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools. “We thank our students for their hard work and our parents and community members for providing the support and resources that enable our students and schools to be successful.”
