They help students with homework and engage them in fun, entertaining and educational activities in a safe and caring environment. But most of all, they provide parents with peace of mind.

That’s why the Cherry Creek School District is joining with the national AfterSchool Association (NAA) to celebrate the professionals who are the heart of afterschool programs during the first-ever Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, April 25-29, 2016.

“We believe afterschool professionals make a difference in the life of a child,” said Sarah Conley, Extended Child Services Coordinator for Cherry Creek Schools. “We encourage everyone to join us this week in thanking the afterschool professionals in their lives.”

These programs are viewed as much more than just child care. They are widely credited as the way to enhance education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM, literacy, the arts, social and emotional learning, health and wellness and more. With that added demand comes increased responsibility for the 850,000 afterschool professionals working in diverse school and community-based settings throughout the United States.
