Beginning September 10, 2016, the Cherry Creek School District will begin using BoardDocs© to post the Cherry Creek School District Board of Education's notice of board meetings, agendas, minutes and supporting documents online.
The paperless meeting solution was initially developed in the year 2000 for a Georgia school district. Since then, hundreds of governing bodies nationwide, including school districts, have adopted the system. The district will be able distribute documents associated with board meetings more quickly and efficiently.
Electronic distribution will not only save time and resources, but it will also provide greater public access via the Cherry Creek School District's website to agenda items and other documents. This process will allow the community to review information prior to board meetings. After the meeting, everyone will be able to see what action the governing body took, complete with voting results. All documents associated with the meeting are automatically archived and can be accessed by meeting date or by using the system's comprehensive search feature.
To access BoardDocs, just go to www.cherrycreekschools,org and click on the Board of Education link under Quick Links on the left side of the page.
Cherry Creek Schools also will use the BoardDocs technology to publish its policies and procedures online in a more accessible format for people to view and download.
In addition to the use of the new online system, the Cherry Creek Board of Education is implementing a new procedure for public comment at board meetings.
During times of general public comment at a regular meeting, comments may deal with any topic related to the board's operation of the schools. Comments at special meetings must be related to the call of the meeting. Speakers may offer such criticism of school operations and programs as concern them, but are encouraged to exercise their speech rights responsibly. Defamatory and abusive remarks are out of order. The board president has the right to terminate a speaker's privilege of address if a speaker engages in improper conduct or remarks.
Anyone who would like to address the board is encouraged to sign the public comment sign-in sheet with their name, address and topic prior to the start of the meeting. Each speaker may only sign up once for the public comment portion of the agenda. The board president shall be responsible for recognizing all speakers who have signed up, for maintaining proper order and for adherence to the time limits set.
The changes are being made to ensure that members of the board are able to hear viewpoints of all citizens throughout the district, to ensure that board to conduct its business in an orderly and efficient manner, and to maintain a record of the names of the speakers.
