The Hollys receive Groove DRIVE for Education grant

Groove grant presentation
Students at Holly Hills Elementary and Holly Ridge Primary will soon have more technology to use in their classrooms to support their learning and to help prepare them for their future, thanks to a $1,500 Groove DRIVE for Education grant from Groove Auto.

“This means so much to us because we’re able to do some really innovative things with technology when we have opportunities like this,” said Emily Stout, the technology teacher at the Hollys. She applied for the grant in order to purchase more iPads for students to use in class.

In addition to working with Hollys students, Stout works with teachers at both buildings. She helps them develop effective ways to use technology to support their students’ academic growth and achievement.

Students at Groove grant event“If we don’t have teachers who have a solid understanding of how to use the technology in authentic ways, then they don’t give the kids opportunities to use the technology in authentic ways,” Stout said.

Teachers who take the technology course receive 12 iPads for students to use in their classrooms. That’s where the Groove grant comes in.

“The grant gives us the opportunity to put technology into kids’ hands and we’re so thankful for that,” Stout added.

Stout received the DRIVE for education grant on Sept. 19 during a check presentation at Groove Auto in Centennial. Stout, fifth-grade teacher Margot Hatch, Principal Molly Drvenkar, and several students attended the event. Groove presented thousands of dollars in grants to local schools. Ten dollars from the sale of every vehicle at Groove’s 22 metro area locations goes toward DRIVE for education grants.
