The Cherry Creek School District is proud to recognize nine school nurses who earned National Certification in School Nursing (NCSN) in 2016. Congratulations to:
•    Barbara Fischer, Homestead Elementary
•    Joani Jackson, Thunder Ridge Middle School
•    Brandon Loy, Eastridge Community Elementary
•    Suzanne Oro, Educational Services Center
•    Julie Parsons, Mountain Vista Elementary
•    Pam Rothe, Sky Vista Middle School
•    Cara Rudolph, Cimarron Elementary
•    Jodie Senter, Dry Creek and Walnut Hills elementary schools
•    Michelle Weinraub, Educational Services Center

“NCSN is the hallmark of a professional school nurse,” said Suzanne Oro, Director of Health Services for Cherry Creek Schools. “Nurses with higher levels of competency and education provide better care to our students and that is always the ultimate goal; supporting student success through delivery of school- based health services.”

The nine newly certified school nurses join these previously certified school nurses:
•    Dianne Gonzer, Meadow Point Elementary
•    Diane Lathrop, Child Find
•    Nancy Merkle, Grandview High School
•    Patti Rojec, Educational Services Center
•    Glenda Thomas, Trails West Elementary

Cherry Creek Schools has 14 of the 86 NCSN school nurses in Colorado. The district is emerging as a leader in helping nurses achieve national certification, by sponsoring a NCSN Preparation for Certification course through ERO. It is the only district in the state to offer such a course for school nurses. The CCSD course is led by Patti Rojec and Michelle Weinraub who developed a curriculum and evidence-based instructional processes to support the nurses’ educational needs as they prepare for the national certification exam. The district’s Health Services department provides educational resources including textbooks.

“This effort is an important aspect of recruitment and retention as we strive to have the best and brightest school nurses providing care to our students,” Oro said.

Cherry Creek Schools is one of the only districts in Colorado that has a full-time school nurse in every school to provide the highest level of quality care to students.
