Stutler and Legacy to Receive Recognition at National Sports Safety and Security Conference

The Cherry Creek School District's Stutler Bowl and Legacy Stadium are among just 10 sports facilities nationwide to be recognized for their achievements in security as part of the 2015 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition set for July 6-9, in Orlando, Florida.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition and to be named alongside some of the finest sports stadiums across the country, including the legendary Madison Square Garden," Cherry Creek School District Director of Athletics and Activities Larry Bull said.

In 2012 the Cherry Creek School District partnered with local first responders and developed detailed emergency and communication plans which have been tested with the first responders and district personnel, Cherry Creek School District Director of Safety and Security Randy Councell said.

Then in 2013, the district installed the Weather Bug stations and lightning sensors at the district's two stadiums, Stutler Bowl and Legacy Stadium. Included in the safety plan is a text alert system to notify key personnel of severe weather and lightning warnings.

"These achievements involve actions above normal operational activities whereby a safety or security issue may have been tackled."

Stutler and Legacy were selected for the recognition by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

"The reason for the Facility of Merit for Safety and Security Award is to allow professional leagues, NCAA member institutions, high school athletic programs, and marathons to honor outstanding safety and security achievements," said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. "These achievements involve actions above normal operational activities whereby a safety or security issue may have been tackled."

Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which facility will be recognized. CEIA USA is serving as the official sponsor of the Facility of Merit for Safety and Security Awards. Those being recognized include the following:

  • Madison Square Garden (NBA)
  • Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn University (NCAA)
  • Albertsons Stadium, Boise State University (NCAA)
  • California Memorial Stadium, University of California in Berkeley (NCAA)
  • Houseman Field, Grand Rapids School District, (NFHS)
  • Stutler Bowl & Legacy Stadium, Cherry Creek School District, (NFHS)
  • Wells Fargo Center (NHL)
  • Nationals Park (MLB)
  • New York Marathon (Marathon)
  • University of Phoenix Stadium (NFL)
