With nearly 12,000 volumes and enough computers to accommodate a full classroom of students, Belleview's library epitomizes learning, exploration, research and READING!  With a certified teacher/librarian and two library assistants, we still rely on fabulous volunteers to handle the 7000 to 8000 checkouts and returns we handle on a monthly basis.  It's quite the active place!

Every classroom in the building has an assigned time each week when students are given the opportunity to browse and select "just-right" books for their individual reading abilities and interests.  In the last few years, thousands of dollars have been invested in expanding our nonfiction areas for kindergartners through fifth graders.  We are always listening for "hot reads" as expressed by our students in order to stay current with the newest popular titles.

Each year, Belleview's library sponsors a reading incentive program where students are rewarded for reading 1,200 pages, or being read-to by an older sibling or other family member.  What makes this challenge even tougher is that 500 of the pages need to be non-fiction reading.  There is a proven link between nonfiction reading and vocabulary development, so, as a school that is preparing every student for college, we do everything we can to encourage exploration of subjects where students have little backghround knowledge or experience.  This, in turn, builds a foundation that will help them be better readers and writers.

Information Literacy Standards drive instruction during the library component of each student's specials schedule.  Identifying a learning task or question, then choosing the correct text or online tools to gather and analyze information, finally leading to a finished product or answer, is a protocol explored by each of our students.

In addition to being an outstanding learning and reading environment, Belleview library's expansive windows look out over Cherry Creek Reservoir.  We have a cozy reading area with sofas, chairs, and pillows.  We completely support Cherry Creek Schools' mission statement to inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, and to care.
