AVID Course Description
AVID is an academic elective offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who fit the guidelines established by national AVID standards. It teaches students the necessary strategies to be successful in both middle and high school, with college being the ultimate goal. Students are supported through rigorous coursework to adequately prepare them to take Advanced Placement courses in high school. Participants receive instruction in writing, note-taking, studying and test taking strategies, time-management and textbook reading. Participation is contingent on solid evidence of prior achievement. Students in the AVID program must maintain between a 2.5 and 3.5 GPA to remain eligible.
Admission Requirements
- Grades of C or higher on report card
- CSAP scores: Partially Proficient High to Advanced Low for Reading & Writing; Proficient to Advanced Low for Math
- Consistent attendance record
- Good Citizenship/Classroom Behavior
