Transportation will be provided for 9th and 10th grade students each morning at the regular time. Students will leave GHS after testing at 12:40 daily. No classes are scheduled in the afternoon for the three days of testing.
Junior and Senior students will have no scheduled classes all three days, but are expected to be in class on Monday, March 5 and Friday, March 9.
Please note: Students will receive water and light snacks during each day of testing to support their testing success. However, parents are encouraged to provide additional snacks as desired. The cafeteria will also be available to students during test breaks. Please advise students that they should bring snacks with them to testing and will not be able to visit their lockers during test breaks. 9th and 10th grade students are on different levels of the building and on different testing schedules.
The importance of TCAP as a college readiness measure:
TCAP test results are a significant measure of each individual student’s academic growth toward college readiness and are available for your viewing on PowerSchool. They are also used by GHS staff to make course recommendations and future academic decisions. Students whose TCAP results indicate below proficient performance may be assigned to classes next year specifically designed to build needed college readiness skills. This may limit your student’s future course selections. By state law, TCAP results are also placed on a student’s transcripts.
TCAP results are also the primary instrument used by the state to measure the overall performance of Grandview High School. While colleges do not typically reference individual grades for admission decisions, they are very aware of the overall performance of schools on all standardized testing measures including AP, ACT, and TCAP. Therefore it is imperative that all 9th and 10th grade students attend school during the three days of testing and give their best effort on the TCAP. Parents are encouraged to schedule all doctor appointments and other family/school conflicts away from the three days of testing, March 6, 7, and 8, 2012.
Please help your students do their best on the TCAP through the following:
1. Help your student to get a good night of sleep prior to each day of testing.
2. Provide a good breakfast each morning of testing.
3. Provide snacks and drink for each day of testing.
4. Avoid schedule conflicts that would take students out of school on the mornings of TCAP.
5. Remind students that no electronic instruments (I-Pods, MP3’s, and handheld game devices) may be used during or after testing other than calculators on some math tests. Cell phones are also prohibited in testing rooms.
6. Discuss the importance of each student taking the tests seriously and demonstrating his/her best effort.
NOTE: The GHS PTCO has again generously provided some type of gift certificates for all 9th and 10th grade student who work hard and complete all TCAP tests. Students who complete all tests will also be eligible for raffle prizes awarded by PTCO and the school.
If you have questions regarding the TCAP test at Grandview High School, please contact test coordinator and Assistant Principal, Dr. Monica Zucker, at 720-886-6525.
The Colorado Department of Education has provided a very informative parent brochure that answers many questions about the TCAP test. It can be accessed at the web site below.
