AVID
AVID is an academic program that focuses on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, collaborative teamwork, and reading. AVID students are enrolled in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum as well as an elective AVID class that provides:
  • academic instruction
  • tutorial support
  • motivational activities
The goal of AVID is to educate the "whole student." This is achieved by unifying six important elements of education:
  1. students
  2. curriculum
  3. faculty
  4. tutors
  5. parents
  6. community
AVID Objectives
  • To provide academic instruction and other support to prepare students for success in four-year colleges and universities
  • To motivate and equip students to see themselves as leaders and college students  
  • To increase the academic "coping skills" of participants
  • To increase the participants’ levels of career awareness and opportunities
  • To develop leadership skills
AVID Activities
  • Learning with college tutors  
  • Writing and note-taking for all classes
  • Developing success strategies
  • Applying for college
  • Preparing for a professional career
  • Visiting college campuses
  • Interacting with guest speakers
  • Participating in extra curricular and community activities
