Thunder Ridge has a wide variety of activities for our students to participate in and learn about something new and exciting.  If you are interested look for announcements or contact the SPONSOR.  Be a part of your school, get involved!
 
Art Club:
With meetings once a week this club is for artistic people who want to expand their talents. The students are exposed to a wide range of art activities from drawing to sculpting and beyond. Both art rooms are used and as many as 50 students are members of this club.  Also, new this year, is an Honors Art club. More information will follow concerning this new Art club. Brain Bowl:
The Optimist Club of Colorado sponsors an annual Brain Bowl Invitational Tournament. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade teams compete for top honors as they show off their team skills and general knowledge of math, science, history, literature, current events and science. Teams participate in four 'head to head' oral rounds and one written round. The top eight teams compete in the elimination rounds which determine the winning teams at each grade level.

Destination Imagination:
DI is a school-based program that presents children from kindergarten through college with a series of challenges that encourages divergent thinking and develops problem-solving skills. Under the guidance of a coach, five to seven students pool their talents to find innovative solutions to the challenge of their choice, each of which is developed fresh each year. Sponsor: Denise Johnson
 
Drama and Musicals:
Thunder Ridge is known district-wide for its fine plays and musicals. Over 40 student actors plus 20 crew members work on the plays and close to 100 students will be involved. Many students at TRMS take advantage of this tremendous opportunity! Sponsors: Sonja Parson, Alyson Erwin, Amy Miller
 
French Club:
The students in French club are given a more in depth understanding of the French language and its wonderful culture. Students will experience field trips, skits, plays, and other exciting activity based learning. Sponsor: Christina Becker

Math Counts Club:
Math Counts Club is open to all sixth, seventh and eighth graders. The team meets once a week from 3:05 – 4:00. Students will sharpen their math skills to get ready for competition with each of the other schools in the district. Sponsors: Makala Freeman, Sonja Hassler, Alison Hill
 
Music Groups:
The Band, choir, and orchestra perform throughout the year. Over 300 students are involved! Outstanding teachers and many talented students make sure these programs are the best. Sponsors/Directors: (Band) Nick Hinman, (Choir) Paul Hasstedt and (Orchestra) Ellen Ravnan
 
National Junior Honor Society:
Students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above are eligible for membership. In addition, members must meet high standards of service, character and citizenship. Sponsor: Lori Mable, Melissa Johnson
 
School Store:
The Thunder Ridge School Store is an opportunity for students to be involved in marketing and selling products for a profit to benefit all students at Thunder Ridge. The store is open most days after school and all student workers earn a small salary as well as discounts on merchandise at the store. Sponsors: Lisa Carey
 
Spanish Club:
Spanish club will meet once a week after school. The focus will be to supplement classroom learning with cultural activities such as, celebrations, holidays and special days. We will also spend time talking about famous Hispanics, travel/famous cities, food, and the arts. Another option during club meeting time will be for students to get extra help on their Spanish work and gain a better understanding of the language. Sponsor: Trish Gallagher
 
Spelling Bee:
Spelling Bee is for students who are interested in competing in the local and state competitions. This activity will be in January. Practice sessions are weekly and determined by the group. Final team selection is made prior to district competition. Sponsor: Mary Anderson
 
Snake Care Takers:
A dedicated and unique group of students come every morning and take care of over 30 snakes in Ms. Schmidt’s classroom. To become one of these snake care takers students must complete an application process. If selected to become a snake care taker, the students are involved into an intensive training program. Students learn how to handle, clean, feed, and care for the snakes. Sponsor: Pam Schmidt
 
Student Senate:
The Thunder Ridge Student Senate is a club that plans activities, recognizes students and staff for outstanding achievement, and works to improve school spirit. In the past, they have planned dances and spirit weeks, organized the recycling program, recognized Super Star Students, and many ways to help in the community. WEB Leaders:
A selected group of eighth grade students that do just about everything from helping with registration to facilitating many events at TRMS! On of the most important things they do is plan and run an orientation program to welcome the new 6th graders to Thunder Ridge. These students are strong leaders at our school who help develop the caring community at Thunder Ridge. This group of people is a direct reflection of our "T.L.C." curriculum at our school. All of the students involved have made a commitment to Tolerance, Listening, and Connecting/Caring. Sponsor: Angie Hale
 
Yearbook:
Thunder Ridge Yearbook class introduces (7th and 8th grade students) to the process of making a yearbook. The students are involved in all aspects of this project including taking pictures, deciding what to cover, laying out pages, writing copy, selling, and distribution. For the past four years the Thunder Ridge Yearbook has won awards from the Herff Jones Publishing Group. The Yearbook staff continues to strive for excellence. Sponsor: Tracy Naff
