​Congratulations to Our Spelling Bee Finalists!

On Jan. 19, 2012, Willow Creek hosted its school Spelling Bee. Participants were selected based on a written test given to interested 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. There were 27 students that qualified for the Oral Bee, based on their written results. Words were spelled orally with a strict protocol. One wrong letter or a repetition and a student had a miss counted. Each student was allowed two misses and the third miss then disqualified him/her. A few of the words that did some damage this year were fragrance, defunct, ensemble, incidental, pursuit and serenade.

It was a fun afternoon, with lots of nerves and excitement emanating from Mrs. Heaton’s Room. The Bee continued for 10 rounds in order to narrow our participants to the final three with one additional alternate. From left to right in the photo, our finalists are Evan (fifth grade, alternate), Catalina (fifth grade), Viyan (fourth grade), and Elyse (third grade). These students advance to the Cherry Creek District Spelling Bee on Feb. 10, 2012.
