The Physical Education curriculum focuses on the physical, cognitive, and social skills essential for a lifetime of fitness and health. Students will practice body management skills in a variety of games, dances, fitness and gymnastic activities. Through progressive physical activities and culminating games, students will have the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and positive social interaction.
Fitness is stressed daily during Physical Education class and I am excited to have the opportunity to help your child discover the importance of a healthy lifestyle. I cannot overstate the significance of role modeling an active lifestyle at home. Children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Go for a walk, take a bike ride or toss a ball. It is important for your children to see you being physically active. Remember, you are their most important role model!
Grades K-2 will have Physical Education once every 4th day of school, while students in grades 3 & 4 will have physical education every 5th day during the Encore rotation throughout the year. Students in grades 5th-8th have PE every other day for a quarter.
Appropriate shoes are essential to enable your child to take part in Physical Education class. Due to safety issues, your child cannot participate without the proper shoes. Please help your child learn which days he/she will be coming to Physical Education class and encourage appropriate footwear, and/or leave an inexpensive pair of athlete's shoes with his/her teacher.
Assessment will be according to your child’s individual progress, demonstration of skills, and contribution to class activities. Students will be responsible for the skills and material covered in class. Since learning is achieved through active involvement in varied experiences, maximum participation in all activities is imperative. Students are expected to be respectful, exhibit responsible personal and social behavior, improve and build upon their current level of abilities, and put forth their best effort.
