Language Arts

  • Reading and Writing:

Our literacy curriculum, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's (HMH) Into Reading, is based on research in the essential elements of literacy, including the Science of Reading. Students are actively engaged in the process of reading and writing on a daily basis. The K-6 reading curriculum, HMH Into Reading uses the latest in literacy research to ensure every student learns to read and write with confidence. We also use Wilson Fundations for Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Fundations is a supplemental word study program that complements our core literacy program. Fundations teaches reading, spelling, and handwriting skills in a multisensory way.

    WIN (What I Need) Structure:

Each day our students are engaged in a unique structure for targeted literacy instruction. During this time, all classrooms have very specific, targeted, and differentiated literacy instruction to meet the needs of every child. The students meet in small groups with reading specialists and classroom teachers to practice everything from sight word acquisition to vocabulary and comprehension.
