    The Cherry Creek School District is committed to honoring our heroes, the active service members and veterans who've sacrified to ensure our freedom, our happiness and our safety. Our schools have put together breakfasts, parades, concerts and more -- see the list below to find a school near you! Please note that some schools require an RSVP.

     

    Altitude Elementary

    Friday, November 5, 2021 | 1 p.m.

    Altitude Elementary, Fox Ridge Middle School and Cherokee Trail High School students will particpate in a .6 mile-long parade through the Southshore neighborhood to honor America's heroes. Veterans, active duty military members and first responders are invited to enjoy food and beverages in the heroes hospitality tent.

    Antelope Ridge Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 8:20 a.m.

    Antelope Ridge Elementary students will hold a "reverse" Veterans Day parade. They will be outside the school with signs and flags to cheer on our veterans and active military as they drive through our school's bus lane and drop-off lane.

    Arrowhead Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 2 p.m.

    Arrowhead Elementary is proud to host a Veterans Day to honor our heroes. It will be outside if the weather is nice, inside in case of inclement weather. After the parade, honored guests can enjoy light refreshments during a reception in their honor.

    Aspen Crossing Elementary

    Friday, November 5, 2021 | 1:30-2:15 p.m.

    Aspen Crossing Elementary will hold its annual Veterans Day parade in conjunction with Sky Vista Middle School and Eaglecrest High School. Students will parade from Aspen Crossing to Sky Vista where there will be a short ceremony to honor our veterans and active military members.

    Belleview Elementary

    Belleview Elementary School's Student Council is sponsoring a week of celebration to honor veterans and active military members in our community. Every Belleview student will be writing and sharing a card with a local hero. In addition, veterans are invited to Belleview throughout the day on Nov. 11 to visit classrooms and talk with students.

    Black Forest Hills Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 8:30 a.m.

    Black Forest Elementary will celebrate our nation's heroes with a patriotic parade through the school, followed by a reception where several students will share their writings they have done for Veterans Day.

    Buffalo Trail Elementary

    Veterans and active military members and their families are invited to an assembly featuring the Buffalo Trail choir and guest speakers. Honored guests are encouraged to tour the school to see the student projects and displays marking Veterans Day.

    Canyon Creek Elementary

    Cherry Hills Village Elementary

    Thursday, November 4, 2021 | 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

    Cherry Hills Village Elementary invites local veterans to attend a light breakfast in the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m., followed by a program titled "We Honor You," which will be performed by our second grade studnets in our gym. Our second graders will perform again at 7 p.m. We ask that only students and family members who have an honored guest attending join for the morning breakfast and program. All families and friends of second graders are welcome to attend the evening performance.

    Cimarron Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 9 a.m.

    Cimarron Elementary students will honor America's heroes with a video showcasing what each grade level has been doing to learn about and celebrate the contributions of our veterans and active military personnel. Students in kerdergarten through fifth grade will share their artwork, letter writing and spoken word work. Our music students will also perform songs honoring the five branches of the military. The video compilation of schoolwide activities will be sent to our community and viewed in every classroom in our school.

    Cottonwood Creek Elementary

    Monday, November 8, 2021 | 8:30-10:30 a.m.

    We invite local veterans and active military members to tour our “Hall of Heroes” and spend time connecting with students in our classrooms. During this time, students will have an opportunity to introduce their honored guest, who will have the opportunity to share a little about themselves with the class - their branch of service, what they did in the service, etc.  8:30-9 a.m.: Kindergarten and first grade classroom visits and tour. 9:15-9:45 a.m.: Second and third grade classroom visits and tour. 10-10:30 a.m: Fourth and fifth grade classroom visits and tour. Our PTCO will be providing "We are Grateful" goodie bags to our veterans.

    Coyote Hills Elementary

    Coyote Hills Elementary fifth-graders will host a community assembly featuring a color guard presentation and musical performances. After the assembly, veterans and active military members are invited to our  classrooms to speak with students.

    Creekside Elementary

    Creekside Elementary looks forward to continuing our great tradition of honoring our heroes. Veterans and current Armed Forces members are invited to our Veterans Day open house. During this time, veterans will visit classrooms and talk with our students. They will also have the opportunity to tour our “Heroes Hallway,” filled with student writing pieces. Our schedule will be: 8:15-8:45 a.m.: kindergarten and fourth grade classroom visits and tour. 9-9:30 a.m.: first and third grade classroom visits and tour. 9:45-10:15 a.m.: second and fifth grade classroom visits and tour.

    Dakota Valley Elementary

    Second grade students will perform a medley of patriotic songs. The performance will be livestreamed to classrooms. Veterans and second grade parents are invited to attend in person. Students who have a veteran attending can watch the performance with them in the gym.

    Dry Creek will host a student showcase honoring America's heroes. Each grade level will take turns showing appreciation and honoring veterans through songs, essays, artwork, letter writing and more. The event is open to all veterans in the community but there will be limited seating for parents and community members.

    Eastridge Community Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 8:40 a.m.-2:35 p.m.

    A group of veterans from the VFW Auxilliary Post #1 will be presenting a short flag folding demonstration first thing in the morning. During Integrated Arts time, students will be in a rotation of activities including making cards, writing letters and drawing pictures for honored guests.

    Fox Hollow Elementary School

    High Plains Elementary will host a Veterans Day breakfast for veterans, current service members and their families. Afterward, honored guests are invited to visit classrooms and talk with students about their military service.

    Holly Ridge Primary and Holly Hills Elementary

    All week | Times vary throughout the week

    The Hollys will honor America's heroes with a variety of activities throughout the week. Both schools will display their “Veterans Wall of Honor” featuring pictures and information about veterans in our community. Every class will connect virtually with local veterans from American Legion LCW Post 1. Veterans will share their military story and experience. Students and staff will have interactive video discussions with our veteran visitors. In addition, students will take virtual tours of national monuments, museums and battlefields. The VFW Women’s Auxiliary will visit our third graders to share a presentation about our flag and the flag folding ceremony. We will record and post the visit for all to see.

    Homestead Elementary

    Homestead Elementary students will record interviews with veterans and active duty personnel they know. The interviews and several choir songs will be blended into a video for the whole school to view on Nov. 11. In addition, students will be creating cards of appreciation for veterans to be delivered to the VA Hospital in Aurora.

    Independence Elementary

    Students will be writing letters and cards to send to veterans. We will have a video celebration of veterans including a presentation by our choir. The video will be shared with classes and sent to the community. Grade levels have the option to visit with a veteran virtually in their classrooms.

    Indian Ridge Elementary

    Indian Ridge Elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade will decorate luminary class jars for the Colorado Freedom Memorial.

    Meadow Point Elementary

    Mission Viejo Elementary

    Mission Viejo Elementary is proud to host its 15th annual Veterans Day celebration. Veterans, active military members and their families are invited to breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a patriotic assembly at 8:30 a.m. Afterward, honored guests are invited to visit classroom visits to share their story with students. Our special event will wrap-up with a luncheon for our heroes.

    Mountain Vista Elementary

    Veterans are welcome to join in celebration with Mountain Vista students and staff. Veterans can share complimentary donuts and coffee with their families and students in the cafeteria. From there, we will celebrate veterans in our classrooms with the first classroom visit at 8:30 a.m. and the second classroom visit at 8:45 a.m. Our veterans will then be celebrated in a "Walk of Honor" throughout the school.

    Peakview Elementary

    Thursday, November 11, 2021 | 2 p.m.

    Peakview Elementary is proud to host a veterans and military appreciation reverse car parade! Veterans and military guests will drive by our school as we cheer for them from the sidewalks outside our school.  Our Grand Marshal will help organize the procession and will lead the parade, which will begin and end on S. Biscay Circle in front of the Smoky Hill Library, located at 5430 S. Biscay Circle in Centennial. Please arrive at 1:30 p.m. Prior to our parade, our students will create thank you cards and host a donation drive to benefit the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimmons.

    Pine Ridge Elementary

    Pine Ridge Elementary will celebrate America's heroes with a patriotic parade around the perimeter of our school. Then honored guests are invited to visit their child/grandchild's classroom and watch a video performance by our school choir. We will offer this virtually as well if veterans would like to Zoom into a classroom.

    Polton Elementary

    We will be celebrating Veterans Day with a variety of activities during the week of November 8 and on November 11. We will reaching out to our families to have them share pictures and information about veterans in our community so we can create an interactive bulletin board for our school. Each grade will decorate their hallway with a branch of the military as their theme. We will also be creating cards for veterans in our communityand in other organizations. Our students will also be learning songs in music. On November 11, we will have veterans visit classes by either coming into school, joining via Zoom or prerecording a message.

    Ponderosa Elementary will honor our nation's heroes with a parade through our school. Students and staff will line the hallways, waving flags and cheering for our honored guests. The parade will end in the Ponderosa cafeteria where our guests will enjoy a light breakfast while visiting with members of our Ponderosa Student Council.

    Red Hawk Ridge Elementary

    Our school is excited and honored to welcome veterans, active military members and their families to join us in making a keepsake craft while enjoying light snacks and refreshments in our library. Honored guests and their families will also have an opportunity to attend a special performance by the third grade class in the gymnasium. Our celebration will conclude with the entire school showing our love and appreciation to these heroes during an outdoor parade walk.

    Rolling Hills Elementary

    Rolling Hills students and staff are excited to honor our veterans and active military members during this amazing annual event. The school will send a video to our community honoring our veterans on Nov. 11. In addition, veterans, active military members and their guests ( student and/or family) will assemble outside along our school sidewalk for a patriotic parade in their honor at 1:45 p.m. Honored guests will enjoy cookies at the completion of the parade in our picnic area.

    Sagebrush Elementary

    Sagebrush students will be showing their appreciation for our veterans and service members by writing letters of thanks that we will share with our community.  Some classes will create videos showing our appreciation for the sacrifices past and present military members have made. We will compile clips of these videos into a veteran appreciation video to share with our community via the Sagebrush website at https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/sagebrush. In addition, Sagebrush students will create a Wall of Honor in our school featuring student family members and friends who are veterans or active duty military.

    Sunrise Elementary

    Veterans and active duty service members will be treated to a breakfast in their honor, followed by a viewing of a pre-recorded assembly in our gym. We will end our event with a parade through our school, in which our students will celebrate our Veterans and send them home with a small token of our appreciation. Honored guests are also invited to classrooms to spend time with students and share about their experiences in the military. We also have an amazing Wall of Honor that displays photos of friends and family of our Sunrise Community that have served or are currently serving.

    Timberline Elementary

    Timberline Elementary will start its Veterans Day celebration with a reverse parade, where the students will line the loop and street and veterans and active duty service members and their families will drive through. Then everyone will meet on the soccer field and have a small ceremony, featuring a flag ceremony, patriotic songs and a balloon launch.

  • Veterans Day Salutes: Dave Henderson

    CCSD Deputy Chief of Operations Dave Henderson recently received a Quilt of Valor, a hand-crafted tribute to service fashioned by a foundation dedicated to honoring the nation’s heroes. For Henderson, an Army veteran who oversees the district’s most significant operations and construction projects, the ceremony was a moving tribute from a place he’s called home, in one way or another, for decades.

    Grandview juniors help raise money for Wounded Warriors Project

    Students at Grandview High School are helping to raise money this week for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit that supports veterans and active duty service people. The student-led fundraiser was started by juniors Alexandra Brown and Charisma Greenfield, who wanted to give back to people who serve the community every day.
