Elementary School #45
Thank you CCSD voters!
The Cherry Creek School District is pleased to announce the construction of a new elementary school to alleviate overcrowding and provide a quality education to students in the southeast area of the district. Elementary #45 is scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year and will be located in the Blackstone neighborhood, on the west side of S. Blackstone Pkwy across from E. Long Place.
Community presentations for the Altitude and Black Forest Hills families as well as the Blackstone community members were held in February. Please submit any questions to ElemSchool45@cherrycreekschools.org.
The following attendance boundary area has been recommended to the Board of Education for approval in May 2020. This boundary recommendation also includes the following additions:
- Elementary #45 is projected to open for the 2022-23 SY.
- Serenity Ridge families who would prefer Black Forest Hills over Elementary #45, will be accepted on School of Choice to attend. Transportation will not be provided
- Allow for 5th graders to remain at Altitude for the 2022-23 SY. (Younger siblings are unable to remain at Altitude.)
- Transportation to both Altitude & Elementary #45 will be provided during the 2022-23 SY to the 5th grade students from Serenity Ridge & Blackstone.
Elementary #45 Boundary Recommendation
Where will the school be located?
Elementary #45 will be located in the Blackstone neighborhood, at the corner of S. Blackstone Pkwy and E Valleyhead Way.
Why has this location been selected for the new school?
Public school sites are dedicated to the school district and the location is determined by the builder/developer. The site is included in the original neighborhood design and can be viewed by all potential residents of the community prior to purchasing their home.
What are the enrollment boundaries of the school?
There are currently (3) scenarios being considered for the elementary attendance boundary for Elementary #45. The Long Range Planning Committee has reviewed the enrollment numbers for the area communities and created three possible scenarios. You are invited to review all three scenarios, provide your feedback and comments for the Long Range Planning Committee to take under consideration towards determining the recommendation to the Board of Education. The Board of Education votes to establish the attendance boundaries for all schools.
What academic and extracurricular activities will the school offer?
Elementary #45 will have academic and extracurricular activities consistent with other schools in the area.
All schools include staffing for Music, Art and Physical Educationand additional staffing plans are mainly site-based. Integrated Arts beyond these three will be determined by the school an possible with larger enrollment and staffing. Special services staffing for Special Education, Gifted & Talented, and English Language Learners is also provided at all schools.
Each elementary school receives the same amount of funding from the District Athletics & Activities Department to provide after school clubs & activities to students. Common choices include Intramural sports, Choir, Art Club, Chess Club, etc. Teacher "sponsored" interest clubs will vary based on staff at each school.
When will Elementary #45 be formally named?
The naming process for a new school involves the entire community. Elementary #45 will go through their naming process in the months before the school opens in 2022. Check back in early 2022 for more details.
Will my child have priority to attend because we attend the preschool?
Attending the preschool in a school in CCSD does not provide any priority consideration to attend Kindergarten through 5th grade at that same school. Families are able to request a transfer to attend the school and schools must follow the priority and lottery guidelines when considering applications.
Will my children have to transfer schools? Can they stay at Altitude?
The final decision about "grandfathering" students to stay at Altitude has not yet been made. The District has historically grandfathered students who will be entering 5th grade to remain in their current school. Since a new school is being built to address overcrowding conditions, grandfathering is not typically extended to students in the lower grade levels.
The boundary and school changes approved in May 2021 will take effect when Elementary #45 opens in August 2022.
