    The Cherry Creek School District is committed to honoring our heroes, the active service members and veterans who've sacrified to ensure our freedom, our happiness and our safety. This year, while celebrations are largely virtual, we hope you’ll join us in honoring those in our community who have given so much for this country.

  •  SPC Challen Alonzo, now a CCSD teacher

    Veterans Day Salutes: Challen Alonzo

    Honor. Courage. Leadership. Specialist (SPC) Challen Alonzo learned the value of these things and more during his three and a half years in the Army. He now takes these values and hopes to pass them to his second-grade class at Mountain Vista Elementary.

    Veterans Day Salutes: Andre Pearson

    Before launching his career in education, Mission Viejo Elementary School Principal Andre Pearson was enlisted in the Air Force. Shifting to teaching students was another way to serve his country for the Air Force Academy graduate.

  • Veterans Day Salutes: Dave Henderson

    CCSD Deputy Chief of Operations Dave Henderson recently received a Quilt of Valor, a hand-crafted tribute to service fashioned by a foundation dedicated to honoring the nation’s heroes. For Henderson, an Army veteran who oversees the district’s most significant operations and construction projects, the ceremony was a moving tribute from a place he’s called home, in one way or another, for decades.

  •  Students fundraise for Wounded Warrior

    Grandview juniors help raise money for Wounded Warriors Project

    Students at Grandview High School are helping to raise money this week for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit that supports veterans and active duty service people. The student-led fundraiser was started by juniors Alexandra Brown and Charisma Greenfield, who wanted to give back to people who serve the community every day.

  •  Dry Creek Elementary Special Education teacher Mark Moore

    Veterans Day Salutes: Mark Moore

    Dry Creek Elementary Special Education teacher Mark Moore was a Lance Corporal in the Marines from 1999 to 2003. He served in the Iraqi Freedom Campaign in 2003, and military service was a cornerstone of his life long before he decided to shift gears and begin working in education.
