    The Cherry Creek School District is committed to honoring our heroes, the active service members and veterans who've sacrificed to ensure our freedom, our happiness and our safety. Our schools have put together breakfasts, parades, concerts and more -- see the list below to find a school near you! Please note that some schools require an RSVP.

    Elementary Schools

    Altitude Elementary

    Thursday, Nov. 10

    1:15 p.m.

    Altitude Elementary, supported by Fox Ridge Middle School, will host a patriotic parade honoring our nation's veterans, military members and first responders.

    Antelope Ridge Elementary

    Thursday, Nov. 10

    8:20-9:20 a.m.

    Antelope Ridge Elementary is proud to host a "reverse" Veterans Day parade for America's heroes and their families. Students will line up and cheer as honored guests drive past. Inside the school, a "Wall of Honor" will feature photos and information about local veterans and military members.

    Arrowhead Elementary

    7:30 a.m.

    Veterans, military members and their families are invited to join us for a light breakfast featuring a slideshow presentation by our students and a performance by our choir.  At 8:15 am, our students will line the outside of the building (or the hallways if the weather is bad) for a parade to thank our honored guests!

    Aspen Crossing Elementary

    Friday, Nov. 4

    8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

    From 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aspen Crossing Elementary will host a display of model tanks, a Veteran/Active Military panel, a Purple Heart panel, and a hospitality room for honored guests. At 1 p.m., Aspen Crossing and Sky Vista Middle School will host a parade from Aspen Crossing to Sky Vista, followed by a short program and light refreshments for honored guests.

    Belleview Elementary

    Monday, Nov. 14

    10 a.m.

    Veterans, military members, and their families will be honored during a celebration in the library featuring one student from each grade level reading their Veterans Day essay or poem. Honored guest will then enjoy light refreshments and have the opportunity to visit students in their classrooms.

    Black Forest Hills Elementary

    Wednesday, Nov. 9

    8:30 a.m.

    Artwork and writing projects that students create for Veterans Week will be displayed throughout the school. Students will greet honored guests as they arrive and present them with a handmade card. Then guests will enjoy a reception and program in their honor.

    Buffalo Trail Elementary

    Thursday, Nov. 10

    8:30-10 a.m.

    First, honored guests will be introduced and celebrated during an assembly featuring a choir performance and student readings. Second, veterans, military members and their families will visit classrooms where students will be doing Veterans Day activities. Third, students and staff will line the hallways for a celebratory procession to applaud and give high fives to our local heroes. Our celebration will conclude with refreshments in the cafeteria.

    Canyon Creek Elementary

    Veterans, military members and their families can pick and choose from a number of Veterans Day activities at Canyon Creek. A Veterans Day breakfast will be served from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m. Honored guests can check with their student's teacher to schedule a time to visit their student's classroom to talk about their service and the importance of Veterans Day. Guests can also enjoy lunch with their student. The day will conclude with a patriotic parade and assembly featuring music and speakers.

    During the school day

    Heritage Elementary School will hold a week-long celebration to honor veterans and active military members in our community. Student Council and PTCO will create a flag display at our school entrance. The front lobby will feature a display of photos of students' family members or friends who are veterans or military members. Teachers will work with students on a writing project that will be delivered to two local senior living centers. Veterans and military members will visit classrooms to talk with students about their service.

    Highline Community Elementary

    Highline Community Elmentary invites all veterans, military members and their families to join their child(ren) for a special Veterans Day celebration beginning with breakfast and a craft project, followed by a school assembly featuring student performances and presentations, as well as recognition of our honored guests. Veterans Day artwork will be on display throughout the building.

    Holly Hills/Holly Ridge

    The Hollys will celebrate Veterans Week with an assembly at Holly Hills for veterans, military members and their families. The assembly will feature the Hollys cheer squad and pep team, as well as musical performances. Honored guests can view artwork and a "Wall of Honor" with photos and information about local heroes. The school is also scheduling in-person and video visits with veterans from American Legion Post 1. They will share their military experience with students.

The WMS community will be raising funds to provide one or two service dogs for local veterans through Heroes Puppies for Life.

Guest veterans will then present about their experience: how they chose the military, and what they are doing now. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. In the afternoon, students will create thank you cards and gift baskets for the local VA hospital.

    Cherry Creek High School is proud to host America's heroes at their playoff football game. Veterans, military members, and their families are invited to arrive early for a pizza dinner. Then they will be introduced before the game and at halftime. The game will also feature a fundraiser for Folds of Honor, an organization that provides life-changing scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military.

    Veterans Day Salutes: Challen Alonzo

    Honor. Courage. Leadership. Specialist (SPC) Challen Alonzo learned the value of these things and more during his three and a half years in the Army. He now takes these values and hopes to pass them to his second-grade class at Mountain Vista Elementary.

  • Veterans Day Salutes: Dave Henderson

    CCSD Deputy Chief of Operations Dave Henderson recently received a Quilt of Valor, a hand-crafted tribute to service fashioned by a foundation dedicated to honoring the nation’s heroes. For Henderson, an Army veteran who oversees the district’s most significant operations and construction projects, the ceremony was a moving tribute from a place he’s called home, in one way or another, for decades.

  •  Students fundraise for Wounded Warrior

    Grandview juniors help raise money for Wounded Warriors Project

    Students at Grandview High School are helping to raise money this week for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit that supports veterans and active duty service people. The student-led fundraiser was started by juniors Alexandra Brown and Charisma Greenfield, who wanted to give back to people who serve the community every day.

    Dry Creek Elementary Special Education teacher Mark Moore was a Lance Corporal in the Marines from 1999 to 2003. He served in the Iraqi Freedom Campaign in 2003, and military service was a cornerstone of his life long before he decided to shift gears and begin working in education.
