Frequently Asked Questions
How does this differ from an apprenticeship?
Internship and apprenticeship are often used interchangeably. In Cherry Creek Schools, these are two different opportunities. Internships are short-term (usually a semester or summer long), often unpaid, and are meant to be an exploration of a job or a field of interest. Internships are great for students with an interest in a field that they haven't had real-world exposure to. This can empower students to make informed post-secondary plans.
Apprenticeships are paid job positions that begin in high school and continue 1 or 2 years after graduation. Apprenticeships allow students to master an entry-level position in their area of interest while obtaining certifications or completing coursework that will allow them to move towards their future career goals.
How does this work with my school schedule?
All internship students are placed into an "Internship" course during their internship. This course gives interns 1.0 elective/fine arts credits for the 100 completed hours. If students participate in a summer internship, they will take this course through CCSD Summer School. If taken during the fall or spring semester, students will see the Internship course on their school schedule. This course allows for students to receive 2 consecutive off periods in their school schedule to get to their internship site.
What internships are available?
There are two ways a student can apply for an internship. Companies can partner with specific CTE programs and offer internship opportunities throughout the school year. Students who apply through the CTE/CCIC application will express their area of interest during their interview. If the CTE Team is able to accommodate this placement, the student will be notified. Internship placements are not guaranteed.
I found an internship on my own that meets the district requirements. How can I get credit?
If your internship opportunity meets the district criteria, please contact Connie Cook at ccook8@cherrycreekschools.org to be placed in the Internship course to receive school credit.
