District Athletics and Activities

  • Athletics and activities support academic achievement

Across the Cherry Creek School District, thousands of students participate in a wide variety of arts, athletics and activities. Research shows that students who take part in extracurricular activities have fewer unexcused absences and discipline problems and higher grade point averages and test scores. Involvement also fosters success in college and the workplace.

The Cherry Creek School District offers a wide range of sports, clubs and activities for students at all grade levels. At the elementary level, activities vary by school and range from art and chess to running club and other intramural sports. At the middle school level, 75-80% of students participate in activities ranging from robotics to student council to video club, and/or the four sports offered at the middle school level; basketball, volleyball, track and field and wrestling.

At the high school level, 60-75% of students participate in sports and activities. CCSD offers 25 sports that are sanctioned by the Colorado High School Activities Association. Students can also participate in a rich variety of activities. Some, like DECA, FBLA, and speech and debate, have been around for decades, while others, such as anime, gaming, and coding clubs, and the Technology Student Association, are more recent additions. High schools also have clubs based on affinity or shared interests, such as specific foreign language clubs, the Sisterhood and Brotherhood, and the Muslim Student Alliance.
