Leave Hours and Sick Bank Information
Licensed personnel are allocated 8 hours of sick leave per 18 days of employment. Sick leave is given, in advance, to the employee at the beginning of the school year in increments of hours. Appropriate use of sick leave can be found in the Teacher Policy 4151(A). A first year teacher working a standard 188 day calendar at 1.0 FTE (100%) would be given 80 hours of sick leave. Unused sick leave is accumulated and rolls into the following year.
Licensed personnel are allocated 8 hours of general leave for every 62 days of contracted employment. Appropriate use of general leave can be found in the Teacher Policy 4151(B). A first year teacher working a standard 188 day calendar at 1.0 FTE (100%) would be given 24 hours of general leave. Unused general leave is rolled into the employee’s sick leave balance at the end of the school year.
Sick Leave Bank
The purpose of the Sick Leave Bank is to provide for limited income continuation in conjunction with other benefit plans in case of extended absences due to disability resulting from illness or injury, that renders the member incapable of working (refer to Policy 4153 for other health-related types of extended leave).
All new hire licensed employees are automatically enrolled into the Sick Leave Bank and will be deducted one day of sick leave.
You may elect to drop your Sick Leave Bank membership by completing the Drop Membership Form which can be found in the Teacher Policy 4151.7 on the District website. Additional Sick Leave Bank procedural guidelines can be found in Teacher Policy 4151.2. You will not receive your required one day deduction back but you will not be required to donate another day if the bank drops below policy requirements.
