Cherokee Trail World Language Department (WLD) Mission Statement
The teachers at Cherokee Trail High School believe that every student should have the opportunity to explore new ideas and pursue personal interests in language. The goal of the World Language Program is to prepare students to be linguistically and culturally competent in a language other than English.
CT WLD at a glance
Our World Language Department offers engaging Spanish and French courses that align with ACTFL standards, focusing on developing skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Students will immerse themselves in diverse cultures through interactive lessons, fun activities, and meaningful communication. From group conversations and creative projects to cultural celebrations, our classes go beyond grammar and vocabulary, helping students connect with the world. Join us to build confidence, foster curiosity, and develop global competence and tolerance.

WORLD Week
Is it required? Should I take all four years? Learning a world language is strongly encouraged for all students. Many colleges have a minimum world language entrance requirement. For example, some programs at the University of Colorado require completing level 3 in a single language, and other state schools strongly advocate completing at least level 2 of a foreign language, while highly selective colleges and universities look for 4 years of study. You can search for language requirements for any schools you are interested in attending, and their website will have all the information you need. Any CT WLD teacher would also be happy to assist with this as well.
