Dear Grandview Community,
February at Grandview is one of the most special for our community because it is our month of giving. Miracle Week is February 10-14, and what better way to show love on Valentine’s Day than to support Max. You can learn more about him and the week’s events in the Activities section of this newsletter. It’s always so rewarding to watch our students give so generously to support another. Many of our feeder schools are participating and raising money for Max, so we thank them for all their support, too!
February also means post season for our winter sports, and we wish our Poms and Cheers competing in Nationals in Florida in the coming weeks the best of luck! In Performing Arts, many of our students recently performed in district and state performances. Our students and our educators are so talented; it’s a proud moment to watch them all perform at the highest levels in the state. And, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be performed by our 9th and 10th graders on February 20-21 in the theater. Please join us!
On February 13 from 4 pm – 7 pm we will have our spring Parent/Teacher conferences in the gyms and cafeteria. The set up will be very similar to how it was in the fall. This is a chance for parents to meet with teachers of new second-semester classes, check in with teachers from first semester, and/or meet teachers they weren’t able to meet in the fall. We welcome your attendance and communication.
February also marks the start of spring standardized testing. Juniors will be taking the ACT test on February 25. Because of the snow day on College and Career Readiness Day in the fall, we will also be giving freshmen and sophomores the practice PSAT test. All families were sent an email last week about that day. The second half of the school day will follow a modified A-Day schedule as it will be a half-day for all students after the exam. The testing schedules for all state-mandated tests will be posted on our website in the coming weeks. As always, we look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate the academic growth of each of our students.
Our counselors are currently working with ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students to pre-register for the 2020-2021 school year. Please take time to talk with your children about what courses they are planning on taking next year and how these work with their ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) in Naviance. It is important that students take time to plan these requests because the requests help us plan our master schedule for next school year. You can get more information about this process by looking at the Grandview home page or by contacting your student’s counselor.
And finally, we welcomed our incoming ninth-grade students (the class of 2024!) a few weeks ago, and we are excited to help them transition to Grandview over the coming months. It’s Great to be a Wolf!
