English Language Acquisition

  • ELA Programming Vision: To provide linguistically diverse learners with equitable access to cohesive learning opportunities that accelerate their social and academic English, provide access to grade level content, and increase their overall achievement through collaboration and co-teaching.

Structure of Learning

  • At Laredo Middle School, English Language Learners (ELLs) are enrolled in team-taught classes, where a language specialist and a content area teacher work together to meet the unique and individualized needs of all students.

ELA Teacher Role

  • While students are learning English, they are also learning math, science, social studies and other subjects in the school curriculum. Teachers in ELA are proficient in the English language and specifically trained to teach students who are learning English.
