Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Christopher Powell
Dear Sagebrush Families,
Welcome to Sagebrush Elementary School. We are glad that you will be a member of our wonderful community. We believe in developing positive relationships with all of our students as a means to achieve social and academic success. Another relationship that we hope to encourage is a home-school partnership. Research shows that parent involvement in school has a strong correlation to student success. We encourage families to become involved in the school whether it is through volunteering in the classroom, actively participating in our PTCO or PASS organizations, or participating in one of the many family activities we offer.
At Sagebrush, we hold our students and staff to our P.A.W.S. expectations. PAWS stands for:
- Working Hard
We reward students for demonstrating these expectations in all areas of the school in order to build a caring community and positive student culture.
New for Sagebrush this year…
With our ever-changing student population, Sagebrush now qualifies for Title I Part A, funding. Title I, Part A of the Federal Government Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA), provides Colorado school districts financial assistance to schools like Sagebrush who now have a large percentage of children who qualify for free and reduce lunch. The additional dollars provided to the Cherry Creek Schools who qualify for Title I Part A funding is used to assist schools in ensuring that all children meet challenging academic standards. Cherry Creek Schools is required to provide all children with fair, equitable and significant educational opportunities to obtain a high-quality education and to reach--at a minimum--proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. While 51% of our Sagebrush students qualify for Free and Reduce lunch, the additional money that Sagebrush will receive this year will benefit all students by providing extra staff and some additional programming. We will be holding family meetings soon to discuss our school-wide plan.
Also new this year is our remodeled Library and Maker Space. Both will be places where students can imagine, dream, create, problem solve, innovate, and collaborate. Thank you to the voters who made this possible.
Although we are focused on the academic needs of all students, we want to have an inclusive school environment in which each student feels he or she belongs and can make a positive impact to the school community. I look forward to partnering with you to make this an exciting and successful year for our students. Thank you in advance for your support and commitment.
