Absences
Calling in an Absence
Students should only be absent from school in the case of illness, unusual family difficulties, or emergencies.
Please call the attendance line at 720-886-6495 by 08:20 a.m. to report when your child will be absent or late. You can call the night before or ahead of time and leave a message. Even if the school day has started, please call the attendance line. The attendance line is available 24 hours a day.
If the child is absent and no call has been received from a parent by 8:30am, an automated call from the district will call families. If we still have not heard from families by 9:00am then the school will call the home to check on the child.
Attendance Letters
Chronic absenteeism is defined by the state as missing more than 10 days in the school year. If your child is chronically absent, or misses more than 10 days of school, parents or guardians will receive a letter from the district on behalf of their school notifying them of the issue. You will receive a second letter if your child misses more than 15 days of school. Learn more about the district attendance policy.
Attendance Process:
- If your child is absent, you can report the absence by calling the attendance phone line extension, calling the main office, or submitting the absence via your school app, if applicable to your school.
- Your child’s teacher(s) record attendance in PowerSchool, and attendance clerks can also modify records.
- Data from PowerSchool is used for identification of students who are close to reaching absence thresholds.
- Attendance letters 1 and 2 will now be automatically sent to families/caregivers from the district once a student has met the threshold for that letter/step and this will be recorded within PowerSchool.
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal from SchoolStudents who arrive after 8:00 a.m. MUST come to the front office and get a tardy pass. If a parent or other caregiver needs to pick up the student early, the parent or caregiver will come to the main office, show their ID, and sign the child out of school. The person picking up must be on the student's contact list as an approved pick up person.
What if my plans change during the day and I want my child to wait to be picked up or ride the bus home?
If plans change for you, please call the main office and we will get a note to your child. If you know ahead of time, please send a note to notify the office and teacher of the change in plans. Because the office is very busy at the end of the day, we ask that you call with any changes no later than 2:00 pm.

Parent Reference Guide
Can my child bring electronics/toys to school? We highly discourage any electronics or toys being brought to school. Any items brought to school must remain in their backpacks while on school grounds. The school will not be held responsible for lost items. Any electronics used inappropriately will be confiscated and will be released to a parent/guardian only.
What if my child needs to bring a cell phone?Similar to electronics, cell phones need to be turned off and left in backpacks while on school grounds. We have phones at school for student use during the school day. We also have walkie-talkies used on the playground for office communication. Any cell phone used inappropriately will be confiscated and released to parent/guardian only.
What happens to lost & found items? All items found in the gym, on the playground, in the lunchroom, or left in the classroom are placed in the lost and found located near the cafeteria. Students need to continuously check for items that may be theirs. Marking your child's coat, etc. with his/her name will make it easier to find lost items. Items that are not claimed will be donated to charity several times throughout the year.
Can I meet my child outside his/her classroom? No, we ask that you meet your child near the front office or in the designated areas outside of the building. Please do not take students from the playground without notifying the office.
Can my child ride his/her bike/scooter to school?Yes, however, our policy is "No Wheels on School Grounds". If your child rides his/her bike or scooter, we ask that they walk them while on school grounds. Bikes/scooters must be parked at the bike racks. Scooters will not be permitted to be stored in the building.
Can my child bring roller blades or roller shoes to school? No, due to limited storage and damage to school property we ask that no roller blades or roller shoes be worn to school.
What happens if my child gets sick at school?Students who are feeling ill are sent to the office for a temperature check and/or to rest. If we determine the child is too ill to remain in class, the parents will be notified. For this reason, it is critical current emergency information and numbers are kept up to date on your child's enrollment form. PLEASE do not send your child to school if he/she has already gotten sick before school begins.
Can my child take medication at school?ANY medication that must be taken at school, prescription or over-the-counter, must be kept in its original container and locked in the health room medicine cabinet. A medical release form with the doctor's and parent's signature must be on file. Both of these requirements are State laws. Children's acetaminophen will be provided to your child if necessary, only if the parent's authorization is on file. Students are not allowed to carry medication with them at any time at school, on the bus, in lunch boxes, or in the classroom.
How do I drop off and pick up my child? When picking up or dropping of your children please remember to stay in your vehicle and move forward with traffic. Staff will be out to guide the flow of cars through the parking lot. If you wish to walk your child to their door please park in designated areas. We also ask you to reinforce good safety procedures by using the crosswalks. Please do not drop children off in the bus lanes or in no parking areas.
May I bring an item my student has forgotten? While we stress the importance of students being responsible, sometimes the need arises when items need to be brought in during the school day. Rather than disrupt the classroom with a delivery, parents should leave these items in the office and the student will be called to pick them up.
