Peakview Music Program
All students at Peakview take part in music classes. Lessons are based on the Colorado State Music Standards for kindergarten through fifth grades. Students learn about the basic elements of music and how to apply those elements while in class. Students of all grade levels learn how to read and write music, perform as a group, sing, music history, and important musical composers.
Students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades perform a musical program every year. The shows vary each year and teach different musical genres, styles and have an academic and character connection.
Students also learn to play instruments. Younger students play percussion instruments (drums, xylophones, boomwhackers, etc.) while older students learn to play recorders. This is an excellent way to incorporate all of our music standards in a very enjoyable manner.
Another tradition for Peakview is the 5th graders experiencing the Colorado Symphony Orchestra during a field trip to Boettcher Concert Hall. It is an experience that many students look forward to every year!
Extra-Curricular Music Classes
Peakview students have a few options for additional music studies. The Peakview Choir is open to students in grades 4-5 and it is a non-auditioned group. We meet every Tuesday morning starting at 7:30am and perform 2-3 times a year.
Students in grades 3-5 can participate in a beginning strings or band class that is offered through the Cherry Creek School District. The strings meet at our school on Monday and Wednesday mornings, but these days can vary from year to year. The beginning band program does not meet at Peakview, but students may join other schools’ classes or meet as a feeder group in the evening at a nearby middle school.
