• Dear Ponderosa Families,

As citizens of the world we have all experienced a great deal of change over the course of the past several weeks. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic our lives have forever been changed. Although the change has been disruptive and inconvenient for all of us and tragic for many, I am confident we will emerge from this experience stronger and with a greater appreciation for those everyday-life things we took for granted, when life was “normal.” As we continue to adjust to this new way of life brought about by the orders to stay home, I want to inform the community of a significant transition happening at Ponderosa that will be noticed when we begin school next year. I am simultaneously sad and excited to announce that Mrs. Pierce has decided to step down as assistant principal at Ponderosa. While I am personally sad to share that Mrs. Pierce has decided to resign the responsibilities of being an administrator, as she has served magnificently in this role, I am excited and happy for her. The decision to move out of her current role is due to her desire to return to the classroom as a teacher. As Assistant Principal, Mrs. Pierce consistently demonstrated her sincere love for kids and our community. She will be able to continue to honor this passion in every way, returning to the classroom.  Please take a moment to read through her personal letter to our community.

    Dear Ponderosa Community,

I first wish to express my sincere gratitude to all the Ponderosa students, families, and staff for making this past year here a rewarding and memorable experience.  I have met so many remarkable and caring people who continue to inspire me every day.  It is with a heavy heart that I announce to you that I’ll be stepping down as the assistant principal of this amazing school at the end of this year.  I have decided to head back into the classroom and follow my passion for teaching.

Serving as the assistant principal at Ponderosa Elementary has been a great honor and privilege.  I have felt so fortunate to work here with such incredible children, a dedicated staff, and caring families.  I have learned so much from everyone.  Thank you for the support and all the wonderful memories that I have of our school.  I will never forget watching our students and staff run their hearts out at our Fun Run, visiting with so many students and families at our family nights, and seeing the excitement as students earn PRIDE awards at our PRIDE assemblies.  Ponderosa is truly a special place and I wish you all the best!

Shortly after writing her letter to our community, Mrs. Pierce accepted the opportunity to return to Ponderosa as a teacher on the Special Education team. It is with great joy that I, almost instantly, welcome Mrs. Pierce back to join the Ponderosa staff. I look forward to witnessing the talents of Mrs. Pierce represented in the classroom, teaching students.

In the world of education things adjust and evolve constantly. The role of assistant principal is a vital one in the elementary setting, so there was urgency given to the effort to secure someone with outstanding skill and unquestioned commitment to step into this role.  I believe we have found the perfect match. I’d like to formally introduce Mrs. Bridget Contreraz as the new assistant principal of Ponderosa. Below you will find a short message from Mrs. Contreraz to our families.

    Dear Ponderosa Families,

My name is Bridget Contreraz and I am honored to be joining your school community to serve in the role of Assistant Principal in the upcoming school year!

I have had the privilege of serving as the Assistant Principal in the Antelope Ridge community for the previous two years and in the West Middle School community for five years prior.

I am thrilled to be joining Mr. Chad Gerity and his team at Ponderosa; it is a tremendous opportunity!  I look forward to getting to know your students and families as I transition to this position over the summer.

In the meantime, I hope you and your families are well and navigating this new way of remote learning during this time.  I look forward meeting you all soon!

    Warm regards,

    Bridget Contreraz

I am really excited to work with Mrs. Contreraz and welcome her to our Ponderosa family with open arms. Years ago I had the pleasure of collaborating with Mrs. Contreraz when she worked at West Middle School and I was principal of the Hollys. I know her to be passionate about kids and committed to partnering with families to make success possible for every student. Welcome Mrs. Contreraz!!!

I sincerely hope our Ponderosa families and their loved ones are safe and healthy. I speak for the entire staff at Ponderosa when I say we miss you all dearly and look forward to the day we come back to host school within the walls of our storied building. Take good care, continue the learning and keep practicing your Ponderosa PRIDE.
