AVID

Any student interested in continuing their education after high school is encouraged to apply. AVID looks for students who are motivated, determined, and ready to grow academically. There is no fixed GPA requirement, but students are expected to maintain passing grades in order to remain in the program.

No. While most AVID students pursue traditional colleges and universities, the program supports all postsecondary options. Students learn about and explore all postsecondary options including community colleges, workforce training, technical programs, internships, apprenticeships, and military service. AVID helps students find the path that is right for them.

• Cohorted learning community. Students typically stay with the same AVID teacher and peer group across years, building trust, belonging, and accountability.
• Intentional skill building. Students build strategies in study skills, organization, note taking, inquiry, collaboration, and leadership that prepare them for success in any postsecondary pathway.
• College & career readiness at the center. AVID offers dedicated support for applications, essays, scholarships, and financial aid, plus regular exposure to colleges and career pathways. Students may also have opportunities to participate in college and career field trips that broaden their understanding of future options.

Academic focus. Structured tutorials and caring tutors help students tackle challenging coursework and stay on track.

Motivation & Confidence

“I have benefited from being in AVID because it has helped me to become more of an extrovert and ask for help. For example, I was scared to ask my teachers questions when I was confused on a task, but AVID helped me with that. It's also a safe space. AVID has also helped me with my organization and going up to present in front of a big group. To add to that, I've also learned to take accountability and not procrastinate.
