The Colorado Dept. of Education (CDE) published a list of evidence-based curricula and assessment options for local education agencies. In the fall of 2023, Cherry Creek ran a math curriculum adoption process, starting from CDE’s published list to identify which resources to review. The review committee recommended OUR to the Board of Education for adoption in grades 6 - Algebra 1 because it was constructed using science on how the brain learns math and it is freely (easily?) accessible for all students and families. This curriculum was selected because it:
- Is recommended by the Colorado Department of Education
- Makes math concepts clear and accessible
- Builds strong mathematical thinking skills
- Provides extra support when needed
- Helps students explain their mathematical thinking clearlyThis curriculum was selected because it:

Imagine math class where students:
- Roll up their sleeves and dive into hands-on activities
- Work on real-world problems that actually matter
- Team up with classmates to solve challenges together
- Build confidence by discovering mathematical concepts for themselves
For example, instead of just memorizing formulas about ratios, students might mix colored water solutions to see how doubling and tripling ingredients creates the same shade every time. It's math that makes sense!
We know how important it is for you to help your child succeed. That's why we're excited about the online family resources that come with this program. You'll have easy access to:
- Materials to support learning at home
- Clear explanations of what your child is learning
- Ways to make math relevant to everyday life
Having one curricular resource for grades 6 through Algebra 1 also improves transitions between math courses for students and teachers. With one resource, math teachers and students are familiar with the style of questions and learning used in every math course in CCSD, regardless of which math class they took the year prior.
