Curriculum and Resources

Curriculum refers to the learning experiences that are provided to students in order to meet the rigorous standards in science. Curriculum includes concepts, skills and topics; teacher-designed instructional units; instructional materials including publisher’s textbooks, literature, software, trade books and printed material; technology; media; and field trips.

Elementary

At the Elementary level, students learn through hands-on experiences, science notebooking and through the Science and Engineering Practices. Students are encouraged to think deeply as scientists do in the real world.

Secondary

At the middle school level, students investigate earth, life, and physical science standards through the use of overarching grade-level themes. These interdisciplinary ideas allow students to see the connections between science and the world around  them. At the high school level, students learn science concepts and practices in discipline specific coursework. At all secondary grade levels, students engage with science and engineering practices as these are universal in their use throughout all science disciplines.

Students are required to have 3.0 units of study in the Science to graduate from the Cherry Creek School District.  In order to prepare students for a successful post-secondary educational and work experience, the Board of Education strongly encourages students to participate in a rigorous academic core curriculum consisting of four years of Science.

Science and Engineering Practices

2.  Developing and Using Models.
3.  Planning and Carrying Out Investigations.
4.  Analyzing and Interpreting Data.
5.  Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking.
6.  Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions.
