CCIC Partners with Wings Over the Rockies at Centennial Airport for Summer Learning
As construction continues on the expansion of the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC), the aviation program will partner with Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight at the Centennial Airport to support summer learning across two classes.
“Wings Over the Rockies has been exceptionally welcoming and enthusiastic about hosting our students, and we look forward to the unique opportunity for both groups to learn and grow together in this collaborative environment,” said Steve Day, principal at CCIC.
Students will be working on Air Frame and Power Plant certifications. The Airframe program will run from June 2 through June 27 and will serve 38 students. The Powerplant program will run from July 7 through August 1 with 19 students enrolled. This FAA Certified program prepares students to become certified aviation maintenance technicians, with hands-on training in aircraft structures and engines. Students learn skills in electrical, aircraft materials, maintenance, regulations and various aircraft systems.
“We are thrilled to partner with CCIC this summer as they provide students with an immersive, hands-on experiences in aviation,” said Marcus A. Harshaw, Jr., President and CEO of Wings Over the Rockies. “This collaboration supports our mission to educate and inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals while giving students the unique opportunity to engage with aviation in a real-world environment on our active ramp at Centennial Airport.”
Construction on the expansion of CCIC began in January 2025 as part of the bond measure passed by voters in November 2024. The expansion will nearly double the footprint of the existing building, adding nine new pathways and accommodating 70% more students. Construction is expected to be completed and open for the 2026-27 school year.
