CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of April 7, 2025
5A Baseball: Grandview and Cherry Creek have a good week
District baseball clubs passed the midpoint of the regular season this past week, with the Grandview and Cherry Creek teams leading the way.
The Wolves went 2-1 last week, improving to 10-3 on the season, with a 2-1 record in the Centennial League. The highlight of the week was the performance of Grandview junior pitcher Ethan Wachsmann, who no-hit Cherokee Trail in a 2-0 win on April 12. Wolves coaches praised Wachsmann and his junior battery mate, Kayden Bohmeyer, on a great outing. Wachsmann struck out nine and walked three in the 7-inning, complete game. Up next, Grandview is on the road at Cherokee Trail on April 15.
Cherry Creek improved to 8-4-1 this past week, and is 2-0 in the conference, with home and road wins over Smoky Hill. Next, the Bruins play Legend in a foundation game at Coors Field on Monday, and are back in conference play at Eaglecrest on April 17.
Cherokee Trail (9-6 overall, 2-2 in the Centennial League) went 1-2 last week. The Cougars will resume play on Tuesday when they host Grandview.
The Raptors (5-6, 2-2) were 2-1 for the week, highlighted by a big win at Grandview. Eaglecrest senior pitcher Braden Elliott tossed a complete game 4-hitter, while striking out nine Wolves for the victory. Next, EHS will host Smoky Hill on April 15.
The SHHS Buffaloes (5-7, 0-3) were winless last week, and will try and get back in the win column in league play at Eaglecrest on Tuesday.
Overland is 4-7 after going 1-2 last week. The Blazers will host Adams City on April 15 at Utah Park Field.
5A Track & Field: District teams do well in weekend meets
CCSD Track & Field teams were at various meets across the metro area this past week.
B-Town Bash
The Eaglecrest boys team took first place team honors at the rescheduled B-Town Bash hosted by Broomfield High School last Monday. Raptors Senior Noah Brown took first place in both the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dash events. Senior Thierry Asare was the 400 Meter champion. The Eaglecrest boys also took top honors in the 4x100 Meter Relay event. Junior Bryson States won the Triple Jump.
For the girls, the Raptors took second place overall. Eaglecrest took the 4x100 meter Relay. Junior Alyssa Madrigal took first in the Long Jump, sophomore Zenobia Witt took top honors in the Triple Jump and senior Kaitlyn Hendrian was first in the Shot Put competition.
The Legend Titan Clash
The rescheduled Legend Titan Track Clash took place at Echo Park Stadium on April 7.
The Cherokee Trail girls took third overall, and Smoky Hill was sixth. Grandview finished 9th, and Cherry Creek was 15th.
Individually, Smoky Hill junior Kiyah Enoch was the champion in the 100 Meter Dash. Cherokee Trail senior Ka’Moyyah Allen took top honors in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Grandview took first in the 4x800 Meter Relay (Alexis Fischer, Emersen Hensler, Lillian Carll and Destiny Rodriguez). In field events, Cougars senior Alexandria Carelock was first in the Long Jump. Creek junior Renata Bergstrom took the top spot in the Pole Vault competition.
On the boys’ side, Grandview was third overall in the team standings, with Cherokee Trail finishing fifth, Smoky Hill 13th, and Cherry Creek 17th.
In individual events, Grandview took first in the 4x400 Meter Relay (Jericho Andrews, Braydon Candelarie, Revano Plummer and Quincy Cousin). Wolves senior Derek Williams was first in the Discus Throw, and senior Taylor Waters was champion in the Pole Vault.

Cherry Creek Invitational
The Cherry Creek Invitational was held last Saturday at the Stutler Bowl. The Eaglecrest girls finished first overall, with the host Bruins coming in seventh. For the boys, the Raptors took third in overall team standings, with the host Bruins tying for tenth place.
Individual events on the girls’ side included Raptors freshman Evangeline Ansah who won the 100 Meter Dash, and sophomore Zenobia Witt who took first in the 100 Meter Hurdles. The Raptors took first in the 4x100 Meter Relay (Tatum Gratrix, Witt, Jaylynn Wilson, and Ansah) and 4x800 Meter Relay (Malanya Gaines, Mia Silva, Jenna Hallman, Jenna Winn).
For the boys, Eaglecrest senior Naizel Keys Miller took first place in the Discus Throw.

The Pomona Invitational
Also last weekend the Pomona Invitational took place at Jeffco Stadium. The Cherry Creek girls team placed second in the overall team standings, with Grandview coming in fourth, Smoky Hill sixth, and Overland tying for 24th.
In girls’ track events, Smoky Hill junior Kiyah Enoch won both the 100 Meter Hurdles and the 300 Meter Hurdles. Cherry Creek took the top honors in the 4x400 Meter Relay.
In boys’ competition, Grandview was the overall team champion, with Cherry Creek placing second. Overland tied for 11th and Smoky Hill tied for 33rd.
Individually, Cherry Creek junior Jayden Fox was the champ in the 100 Meter Dash. The Bruins also won the 4x100 Meter Relay. Overland senior Jarrius Ward was the Discus Throw Champion. Creek senior Soren Shinofield was the Shot Put Champ, and Bruins seniors Grayson Pence took top honors in the Pole Vault.
Lions Classic Invitational
Cherokee Trail was part of the Lions Classic Invitational hosted by Littleton High School on April 12 at Littleton Public Schools Stadium.
The Cougars girls finished third overall in the team standings, with the boys taking fifth.
In individual girls’ events, senior Ka’Moyyah Allen won the 400 Meter Dash, senior Alexandria Carelock was the champion in the Long Jump, and senior Raziah Hislop won the Shot Put event.
