Destination Imagination (DI) is a creative problem-solving after-school program for students in kindergarten through college. DI teaches problem-solving strategies, teamwork and creativity. Teams must brainstorm their solutions to one of five challenges, then build and present them on their own - with no outside help. In the five months of time that they work on their challenge, team members create their solution, write scripts, compose music, make props, design scenery, and make costumes. A team consists of up to seven members managed by one or two team managers- parent volunteers).
There are two levels in which teams can present their solutions. The primary level is for students in kindergarten through second grade. These teams simply present their solutions and are given constructive feedback, without competing for a rank score. Students in third through fifth grade compete in the elementary level. In March, these teams compete against other teams in the district. Winners at the district level continue to the State Competition, and if successful, may continue to the World Competition.
DI is open to students of all ages who wish to participate as long as parent volunteer is willing to coach the team.
Music Classes Offered
- Choir- Our choir is open to grades 3-5 during the Fall Semester. Choir practice is on Mondays after school. The choir performs in December in an assembly at school and also participates in a field trip to area nursing homes to sing for the residents.
- Hand Chimes- Participating in hand chimes is open to 3-5 grades during the Spring Semester. Chimes practice is on Mondays after school.
CCEIM is Cherry Creek's band and orchestra program open to 3rd through 5th graders at the elementary school level. This is a great opportunity for our students to get a head start playing an instrument. We only need 10 students to start a class at Dry Creek. Otherwise, students may still participate, but would have to go to practice at another area elementary school.
Please visit the website for more information about Cherry Creek's band and orchestra program.
There will be another club next year.
Girls on the Run
Each classroom in grades two through five elects two representatives to the Student Council. The Council sponsors several community service projects throughout the year such as Canned Food Drives, Quarters for Kids, Supplies for the Dumb Friends League, and school spirit days. Meetings are once a month on Thursday afternoons from 2:45-3pm. Student Council is a great opportunity for students to be involved citizens at Dry Creek!
Each November/December, Dry Creek students are given the opportunity to audition for our Talent Show which is held the Friday before Winter Break. We love seeing the variety of talents and skills our students possess!
