  • Health is essential to optimal learning. Health Services are available to all students within Cherry Creek School District. The Smoky Hill Health Clinic strives to maximize each student's potential by removing health-related barriers to learning. When meeting the student's health needs during the school day, clinic staff also use the opportunity to teach students to make wise choices that will be beneficial to their future health.
If your child has medical concerns that will need to be addressed during the school day, please call the clinic directly at 720-554-5117.
Illness/Exclusion We follow guidance from local and state health departments. For illness information and exclusion criteria, we use evidence-based infectious disease guidelines from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Education (CDPHE). For a detailed look, please click on the link Infectious disease guidelines for schools and child care settings | Department of Public Health & Environment (colorado.gov).
Medication and/or Nursing Procedures Some students may require medication (over-the-counter, prescription) or nursing procedures (g-tube feeding, tracheostomy care, suctioning, etc...) during the school day. If your student requires either medication or a nursing procedure, a current signed order by your student’s health care provider is required. CCSD Health Services forms and action plans can be found at https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/1743 or available as hard copies in the WMS clinic
    ·    The school nurse can give selected medications found in parent forms if the parent/guardian completes permission during online registration. This is for emergent or occasional use. If the student needs OTC medications on a regular basis, they will need written permission from their prescribing healthcare provider
Immunization Record Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed (Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009-2). To learn more about Colorado required vaccines, go to: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/schoolrequiredvaccines
Insurance Outreach Insurance Outreach is dedicated to connecting families with health care resources. We work closely with Colorado Access and will assist students and families finding resources for medical, dental, and vision care. We can also help families connect with other important resources including immunizations, well child and sports physicals, and daily living resources (food and shelter). Please contact Insurance Outreach at (720) 554-5063.
Vision & Hearing Screenings WMS Clinic and CCSD Audiology complete vision and hearing screenings annually. Cherry Creek follows the Colorado Department of Education screening guidelines, all 7th graders will complete hearing/vision screenings.
Healthy Habits Healthy habits promote healthy children. Please assist your children in selecting a well-balanced breakfast/lunch to feed their brain and get the most out of their learning experience. Children often have a stomachache or headache, and frequently the cause is because they did not eat before school. SPF 15 Sunscreen The application of sunscreen should become part of your child’s daily morning routine. This will help prevent skin damage that can lead to skin cancers later in life.
