Mental Health Programs & Curricula Resources

This list represents the variety of programs that are offered across grade levels in our district. Schools select the programs that meet their students needs.

Mindfulness and Resilience Trainings

Based on practical applications of research from the fields of neuropsychology, positive psychology and mindfulness to improve attention/focus, the ability to regulate difficult behaviors (e.g. anxiety, stress, depression, anger, etc.) and the cultivation of positive emotions (e.g. compassion, self-compassion, kindness, empathy, gratitude, etc.).
Focus is placed on implementation with students and staff to support resilience and emotional well being.

No Place for Hate

PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

School-wide, research-based, proactive discipline framework that provides strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments.
Schools teach, demonstrate and acknowledge expectations for all students and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of their discipline system on a regular and frequent basis.
Goal is to increase teacher’s behavior management consistency, decrease office referrals, increase students’ academic time and provide culturally responsive discipline practices.

Restorative Practices

Includes training for staff in facilitation of proactive classroom lessons to increase learning, empathy, perspective taking and community sense of belonging.
An approach to school-based discipline that shifts the focus from punishment to learning and repair of harm through an inclusive process that engages all stakeholders.
Driven by specifically structured conversations, led by adults, guiding students to learn from and repair damage done by misbehavior or conduct.

Second Step

Signs of Suicide

Universal, school-based depression awareness and suicide prevention program implemented in all CCSD middle schools and high schools.
Goals are to 1) decrease suicide and suicide attempts by increasing student knowledge and adaptive attitudes about depression, 2) encourage personal help-seeking and/or help-seeking on behalf of a friend, 3) reduce the stigma of mental illness and 4) engage parents and school staff as partners in prevention.

Sources of Strength

Evidence-based program for suicide, violence, bullying and substance abuse prevention through training, supporting and empowering both peer leaders and caring adults to impact their world through the power of connection, hope, help and strength.
Focuses on the eight themes of Mental Health, Family Support, Positive Friends, Mentors, Healthy Activities, Generosity, Spirituality and Physical Health.

Trauma-Informed Schools

School-wide prevention and intervention designed to create school environments that are trauma-sensitive and supportive to the needs of traumatized children and those affected by those children, including peers and school personnel.
Can include training for staff on trauma-informed practices and strategies for improving overall classroom climate, wellness consultation, activities and support for school staff; as well as school-based therapy for students and families.

Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) and Link Crew

Student orientation/transition programs implemented in all CCSD middle schools and high schools that train 8th and 11th/12th grade students to serve as mentors to incoming 6th and 9th graders.
As positive role models, WEB and Link Crew leaders help establish a safe and supportive school climate for incoming students and provide guidance to help them to gain the skills and information necessary for a successful transition.
