Important information about end-of-year dates
April 27, 2020
Dear Cherry Creek Schools families,
As we approach May, a month typically filled with celebrations, recognitions and championships in Cherry Creek – I want to thank you for your support and grace as we work together to redefine excellence. Today I want to share with you some updates regarding the end of this school year.
End-of-Year Dates, 2020
- The last day of the 2019-2020 school year for seniors will be Friday, May 8.
- The last day of the 2019-2020 school year for all other students will be Tuesday, May 19.
- Final assignments will be collected on Friday, May 15.
- End-of-year activities, including final virtual celebrations, class good-byes and final work turn-in, will take place on Monday and Tuesday, May 18 and 19.
To ensure staff, student and family safety at our 65 school locations, student checkout will take place over two weeks in May. You will get details about your school’s specific checkout plan from your principal, including social distancing requirements in accordance with directives from the Tri-County Health Department. For planning purposes, checkout schedules will take place as follows:
- Seniors – May 11
- Preschool – May 18 & 19
- Elementary School – May 13 & 14
- Middle School – May 15, 18 & 19
- High School (grades 9-11) – May 20-22
Our goal is to allow time to close out the school year and to have a process for families to pick up items left at school and drop off items that must be returned. I also want to allow teachers time to complete report cards and finalize any other items by the end of the year.
We are working on a process to determine how and when devices will be returned. Computers will not be collected during the checkout dates outlined above.
Building Closures Continue
All school buildings and district facilities will remain closed through June 30, 2020, with the exception of our checkout process. Any and all other activities associated with our facilities will be canceled during this time (for example: summer school, daycare and sports programs). I will reassess conditions for opening in July.
CCSD high schools will hold in-person, live-streamed graduation ceremonies in the final week of July. The ceremonies will take place outside in the CCSD Stutler Bowl, and there will be no audience. We made the difficult decision not to allow spectators due to physical distancing and crowd limit guidelines from local and state health agencies. Our ultimate priority is to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and families.
The schedule will be as follows:
- Monday, July 27, 2020
- 7:30 a.m.: Endeavor Academy
- 8:00 p.m.: Grandview HS
- Tuesday July 28, 2020

I also want to express my deep gratitude to all of our teachers and staff, as well as parents and students for rising to this occasion and exhibiting grace and positivity during this ongoing crisis. I continue to be inspired everyday by the acts of kindness and heroism that take place in our community. We are in this together and we will get through this together. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
