Important Information about Summer Activities/Athletics

  • June 8, 2020

The Cherry Creek School District is moving forward with plans to allow high school sports and activities to resume summer practices or meetings under strict guidelines to ensure the health and well-being of students, staff and families.

“We know how important activities and athletics are to the physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of our students,” CCSD Superintendent Dr. Scott Siegfried said. “Our number-one goal is to reconnect with kids and allow them to participate in sports and activities this summer in a safe and responsible manner.”

CCSD staff members, including high school administrators, athletic and activities directors, coaches and trainers and others, have been working diligently to develop a tiered plan to resume sports and activities during the summer months. The plan meets current state requirements and health department guidelines, and will be adjusted when and if conditions change. Staff and students will be required to follow specific health and hygiene practices and protocols.

The resumption of summertime athletics and activities will take place in stages, beginning on June 15. Students and families will receive additional information from their schools in the coming weeks as the plan is implemented.

The Cherry Creek School District continues to work with the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and local, state and federal governments and health agencies to determine what athletics and activities will look like when the 2020-2021 school year begins this fall.
