HOMESTEAD SCHOOL SAFETY AND VISITORS POLICY
The safety of our students is always at the forefront of district planning. Therefore, we have a doorbell entry system at our school. The front door will remain locked during the school day. Visitors are only allowed to enter through the front door. When you wish to visit the school, you must ring the doorbell that will ring into a phone in the main office. You must identify yourself and your reason for being at school. The office staff will be able to talk to you as well as see you in a monitor. Once staff has identified you and verified your reason for visiting the school, the door will unlock remotely to allow you to enter. All visitors must present a valid photo ID, sign in, and obtain a visitor’s badge to wear while in the building. Bring your photo ID with you EVERY TIME you come to the building. Students from other schools or friends of Homestead students are NOT allowed to visit during the school day without prior approval from the teacher. Parents are always welcome and may visit at any time; however, teachers are not available to conference with parents while they are teaching. If you need to talk with the teacher, please schedule a conference.
Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS)
in Cherry Creek Schools 2019-2020
As a result of funds received from the Emergency Response and Crisis Management (ERCM) grant from the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, all leadership and school safety/crisis teams in the Cherry Creek Schools have been implementing this comprehensive school safety model. We have continued to develop updated and effective emergency response plans and procedures that align with state and federal Homeland Security Emergency Management and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Cherry Creek Schools has established responsive partnerships with our community agencies, trained key staff to provide for the emotional impact of a crisis on students and staff, and developed sustainable training materials and crisis response kits for our school safety teams. In 2011, the ERCM process was renamed Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) to reflect our continuous proactive approach to school safety. We are committed to continuing this thoughtful and integrated effort with REMS training.
We would also like to take this opportunity to inform parents about the Cherry Creek School District’s website that gives parents needed information about school safety and related issues. The website explains the district’s efforts to provide for both the physical and psychological safety of our children, and gives parents links to excellent online resources. ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES
A child can never make up a day missed at school even though some assignments may be completed at a later date. The interaction and instruction that takes place in the classroom are just as valuable as written assignments. Students should only be absent from school in the case of illness, unusual family difficulties, or emergency. Parents are discouraged from requesting that students be excused from school for any other reasons.
When your child is absent, a parent is requested to call the school attendance line on 720-554-3795 before 8:00 a.m. to inform the school as to the nature of the absence. If the child is absent and no call has been received from a parent, the school will call the home to check on the child. The attendance line is available 24 hours a day.
