Physical Education

The physical education program at Rolling Hills is designed to build self-confidence, cooperation, character, and fair play while encouraging lifetime fitness through nutrition and physical activity. Our program allows students to participate in developmentally appropriate activities which develop muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, and agility while growing the whole child in movement competence. Personal, social, and emotional wellness are also emphasized. Physical education should be FUN! When kids enjoy and value physical education, they are much more likely to develop healthy habits that will last for the rest of their lives.

    After-school physical fitness opportunities:

    Red Shirt Rookies

Who: 5th graders and students in our ILC program

What: Red Shirt Rookies is an extension of Project UNIFY, a program run by Special Olympics Colorado, pioneering Unified Sports into elementary schools. It is an after school program focused on teaching sports specific skills to the athletes and partners involved. The program strives to break down barriers between kids with and without intellectual disabilities at an early age through playing games and learning skills together. Fifth grade students will be paired with students in our ILC program to participate in flag football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and soccer in the spring.

When: Mondays from 2:45-3:30 in the fall, winter, and spring

Where: We will meet outside on the field for flag football and soccer, in the gym for basketball.

    Tiger Miles Club

    Who: All students K-5

What: Tiger Miles Club was created years ago for Rolling Hills by parent Megan Stellino to encourage students to run, jog, and walk their way to better physical fitness. Participants will circle the 1/5 mile around our school building to accumulate physical activity and mileage towards completion of a marathon distance or more. Our goal is to help kids experience fun physical activity while socializing with friends and breathing fresh air.

When: Tuesdays from 2:45-3:30 in the fall and spring

Where: We will meet on the blacktop to run laps around the school.

    Who: Students in grades 2-5

What: Intramural offerings are designed to allow kids opportunities to explore new sports, games, and activities in the gym.  Students will sign up to participate in various sessions like Crazy Games, Modified Dodgeball, Kickball, Hip Hop Dance, and Team Games. Activities will promote physical fitness, skill building, and sportsmanship.  Students will be sweaty and happy when finished every Thursday.

When: Thursdays from 2:45-3:45 year round

Where: We will meet in the gym.
