PBIS

  • Dear families of Rolling Hills,

At Rolling Hills, we take pride in being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible Tigers!!

    What's PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.   PBIS is a school-wide, research-based, proactive discipline framework that provides strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors.  PBIS fosters safe, respectful, and positive school climates to increase academic achievement and maximize social, emotional and behavioral competence for all students.   Several key elements of PBIS are:

o   A common purpose and a positive approach to discipline

o   A clear set of positive expectations and behaviors

o   Procedures for teaching and encouraging expected behaviors

o   Procedures for discouraging inappropriate behaviors

o   Data used to guide decision making and planning

o   Emphasis on prevention of inappropriate behaviors

What are other benefits of PBIS?

    • Improves school culture
    • Builds social skills
    • Reduces office discipline referrals
    • Reduces referrals for Special Education
    • Reduces suspensions
    • Increases instructional time
    • Improves social and emotional development
    • Improves school safety
    • Increases student engagement
    • Improves academic performance

What does PBIS look like at Rolling Hills?

    • We have three school-wide expectations which are posted throughout the building and discussed frequently with students. These expectations are Safety, Respect, and Responsibility.
    • Please look at the Behavior Matrix, which outlines behavior expectations for all students in all areas of our school.  We call this our map for success at Rolling Hills!
    • Your child may come home filled with excitement for a variety of reward systems we have in place at Rolling Hills to reward children for excellent behavior
      • Tiger paws - classes earn tiger paws from other teachers in the building who notice super class behavior; classes are awarded prizes for every 25 tiger paws a class earns
      • Tiger stickers - earned by individual students  for exhibiting great behavior and can be awarded by any adult in the building as well as their classroom teacher. When students fill up a sheet of 20 stickers, they get to visit the “PBIS Prize Patrol” after morning announcements to select a prize.
      • Golden Paws - a special paw a class can earn from a substitute teacher who has a wonderful experience at RHL; Golden Paws are worth 5 regular paws!
