Denver7: Cherry Creek School District asking voters for $950 million bond
The Cherry Creek School District (CCSD) is asking voters to pass a $950 million bond to address a backlog of maintenance and other capital improvements throughout the district. Part of the reason the 2024 request is so big is because the district scaled back a bond request in 2020 during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Construction and education costs have also risen in the past four years.

Greenwood Elementary welcomes Blackhawk helicopter for Red Ribbon Week
A Blackhawk helicopter made a pitstop on a field outside of Greenwood Elementary School on Wednesday morning for Red Ribbon Week. The Colorado National Guard and the Drug Enforcement Administration taught the students about the importance of being happy and drug free.

Traverse Academy Marks a Milestone in Transformative Mental Health Support After a Successful First Year
Traverse Academy is celebrating the first year of opening its doors for students, marking an important milestone for Cherry Creek Schools in offering a comprehensive educational and clinical care experience for students with significant mental health needs. In the first year, roughly 50 students attended the school and in its second year, it has already welcomed 20 students.

Eaglecrest Raptor Regiment is first high school band to perform at CSU Canvas Field
The 175 members of the Eaglecrest High School Raptor Regiment had a lot of fun and made a little bit of musical history on Sept. 21, when they became the first high school marching band to perform during halftime of a Colorado State University football game at Canvas Stadium.

Alumni in Action: Jake Eskanos
Jake Eskanos, a 2006 graduate of Cherry Creek High School, is a man of many talents. He works in cybersecurity, has a degree in communications, is a lifelong music lover, and grew up as a self-described kitchen "tinkerer." During the COVID-19 pandemic, he turned that tinkering into a successful side business called Jake's Sweet Bakes.

Student discovers his Pathway of Purpose through CCIC courses and apprenticeship
"I love the creativity of it," said senior Warren Cribbs of his experience in machining as a student at CCIC and an apprentice at Lockheed Martin. Cribbs will graduate in December, a semester early, then begin studying mechanical engineering at Metropolitan State University.

2024 Veterans and Military Appreciation Celebration
Tony Drees is an Adaptive Athlete Champion, Purple Heart Amputee, a motivational speaker, and the father to graduates of Cherry Creek Schools. In 2018, Drees’ leg was amputated after his barracks was struck by the “Deadliest Scud Missile of the Iraqi War.”

CCIC Teacher Mike Degitis wins Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence
Infrastructure Engineering Teacher wins a national teaching prize and is surprised on Tuesday. The school's skilled trades program will receive $70,000, and Degitis will receive $30,000.

Review and ranking website Niche recently released its list of the top school districts in each state for 2025, including Colorado. There are 179 school districts in the Centennial State, though Niche only graded and ranked 164.
