Exciting action as the 2023 spring sports season winds down! The Cherokee Trail baseball team advances to the state final four; CCSD golfers head to the 5A Girls State Golf Championships; and All-State honors are announced in boys volleyball, boys swimming and diving, and girls tennis.

Thunder Ridge Fiesta Latina
Thunder Ridge Middle School’s Spanish club and Sol y Estrella club celebrated their third annual Fiesta Latina on April 27. While the group was hoping to attract 200 people, and planned for 300 people, over 400 people from the greater community attended the Fiesta.

Fourth and fifth-grade students at Independence and Polton Elementaries learned about poetry from Aurora’s Poet Laureate, Ahja Fox, who visited students recently to teach them about poetry and to hear their creations.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is about serving kids across the community with free meals during the summer when they do not have access to school meals. The SFSP provides free, nutritious meals to children 18 years of age and under.

Smoky Hill counselor Elaina Huff honored by Colorado Rapids
Smoky Hill High School Guidance Counselor, Elaina Huff, was recognized by the Colorado Rapids on May 18 for her outstanding work in providing mental health support to her students. Last spring, Huff partnered with Project Helping to launch the Kynd Kit program at Smoky Hill.

Families, staff members, and students from Red Hawk Ridge Elementary gathered at the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) on May 18 to celebrate the student leadership group that came from a one-year partnership between the school and RISE Colorado, a local non-profit that partners with schools to educate, engage, and empower families.

Grandview High School’s student newspaper, The Chronicle, attended its first Journalism Education Association National Convention in San Francisco this April and returned with an NSPA’s Best of Show Award in tow: an honor that ranked their website as the 5th best in the nation.
