Golden Heart Honoree: Norma Irgens
If there’s a problem, Norma Irgens can solve it.
As the Executive Assistant for Special Populations, Irgens helps ensure the special education department runs smoothly. She supports hundreds of staff members – from special education directors to social workers to gifted and talented coordinators – to make sure they can help students thrive. She gives particular loving care to the special education department and recently helped ensure that the team had the Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) that they needed.
“She jumped in wholeheartedly to make sure we had an inventory of PPE by being in constant contact with the warehouse,” said Gloria George, who is an administrative assistant in the special education department. “She helped me organize the PPE by group or person so the process of pick-up would go smoothly for our staff. It was her goal to make sure the staff had what they needed to be protected while they were with students and out in the community.”
Irgen’s colleagues say she can commonly be found helping others, whether it’s training, collaboration or giving advice. A kind and patient person, Irgen enjoys connecting with others and helping everyone be successful.
“On the first year of my new job, Norma was helping me learn about my role when I got an unexpected injury,” noted Lupita Medina, administrative assistant for the mental health department. “Norma is patient and kind and leads with her heart, making sure we all have the right tools to be successful in our jobs.”
With many years in the district, Irgens has made a big impact on everyone she works with, especially those in the special education department. Her selflessness and positive attitude make it clear she has a Golden Heart and a deep love for being part of the CCSD family.
