All Star Honoree Profile: Mona Abo-Adas
Mona Abo-Adas doesn’t just have a second family at Polton Elementary – she has hundreds.
As the Before and After Care Director at Polton, Abo-Adas has been a compassionate leader in the district for more than twenty years. From making care baskets for her coworkers to buying lunches for students to mentoring her staff, Abo-Adas continually goes the extra mile, leading with her heart all the way.
“The feeling you get being a part of her staff is that of a 'second family',” Before and After Care staff member Kimberly Perlis said. “She’s always welcoming and interested in what's happening in your life.”
Abo-Adas is described by her colleagues as compassionate and respectful. She actively looks for ways to support those in need and connect families and students with resources. She is the first to volunteer to help support her school as well as other Extended Childcare Services, making her a true “All Star.”
“Mona leads the way in how Before and After Care directors should run a program,” Eastridge Community Elementary Early childhood Education Director Kelby Carter shared. “She successfully affects the people around her to have love and take pride in their school community.”
After almost twenty years in the district, Abo-Adas has inspired countless students and adults with her hope, optimism and leadership.
“She always makes time to talks me through my issues,” Dry Creek Elementary Before and After Care Director Julie Cottorone said. “She has taught me that challenging behaviors are how kids communicate their feelings and needs.”
